Jeremy Foley Releases Statement On Florida, LSU Rescheduling Game

UF athletic director Jeremy Foley issued a statement saying Florida and LSU are still working on rescheduling the missed game.

Florida and LSU postponed the scheduled football game this past Saturday due to Hurricane Matthew. The schools each reportedly offered an alternate way for the game to be played, but both schools denied the other’s idea.

University of Florida athletic director Jeremy Foley said that both schools and the Southeastern Conference are still working to find a way to make the matchup happen.

“We understand the importance of playing this game and we want to play this game,” Foley stated. “We continue to work with the SEC and LSU to make that happen.”

LSU offered to pay for Florida’s flight, lodging, and buses to Baton Rouge to play the game this past weekend in Tiger Stadium, but the Gators understandably said no to playing a “home game” in one of the toughest environments in college football. Florida suggested moving the game to November 19 at Ben Hill  Griffin Stadium, but LSU refused to spend the money to buy out South Alabama and forego a home game.

Florida is currently tied with Tennessee in the SEC East race, both with one conference loss. The Vols own the tiebreaker with the Gators due to the head-to-head result.

LSU is 2-1 with games against division leaders Alabama (3-0) and Texas A&M (4-0) still to come. The Tigers’ lone conference loss came against Auburn, which is also currently 2-1 in SEC play.
