FSU Freshman Jonathan Isaac Declares For NBA Draft

Florida State freshman big man Jonathan Isaac declared for the NBA Draft on Friday through a video on Twitter. Isaac is expected to be among the first 10 players chosen.

Jonathan Isaac has made official what most expected all along – the Florida State freshman is entering the NBA Draft.

Isaac made the announcement with his mother by his side in a video posted to his Twitter account Friday afternoon.

“I’d like to thank all at Florida State for making my time here worthwhile,” Isaac said in the video. “And a special thanks to all you fans and the amazing staff. I truly enjoyed my time here, and it’s all because of you guys.

“I know the season didn’t end as well as everyone expected, but I’m extremely proud of what my team accomplished and I’m honored to have been part of the Seminole basketball family. … I hope you choose to support me on my next journey.”

The 6-foot-10 Isaac averaged an even 12 points and 7.8 rebounds in his only season with FSU, showing the athleticism NBA scouts drool over. He plays above the rim and has good footwork, but he also showed a willingness to step outside. Isaac hit 34.8 percent of his 89 3-point attempts.

The move widely was expected despite the No. 3 seed Seminoles being upset by No. 11 seed Xavier in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Mock draft show that Isaac should be selected in the NBA Draft lottery, with some believing he’ll be chosen as high as No. 3 overall.

Isaac is the second FSU player to leave school this week. Sophomore Dwayne Bacon declared for the NBA Draft on Wednesday.
