3-Star WR Jordan Pouncey Decommits From Notre Dame Fighting Irish

Three-star wide receiver Jordan Pouncey decommitted from Notre Dame on Wednesday, leaving the Fighting Irish with 17 total commits in the 2017 recruiting class.

As the recruiting dead period continues, moves continue to be made.

On Wednesday, 3-star prospect Jordan Pouncey, second cousin of former Florida offensive linemen Mike and Maurkice Pouncey, decommitted from Notre Dame.

Pouncey, the No. 61 wide receiver in the country and No. 9 wide receiver in the state of Florida, released a statement regarding his decision to back off his pledge to the Fighting Irish.

“I want to thank Coach Kelly, Coach Denson and Coach Denbrock for taking a chance on me by offering me a full scholarship and accepting my commitment. Also, I want to thank all of the Irish family for accepting me into the family and treating me like a brother. With that being said, after countless prayers and discussions with my family and mentors, I have decided to re-open my recruitment and decommit from the University of Notre Dame. Please respect me for my decision, knowing that I need to do what is best for me.”

This may be a chance for Jim McElwain’s Gators to make a move in Pouncey’s recruitment. Florida initially recruited Pouncey as a defensive back but coaches are now warming up to the idea of keeping him on the offensive side of the ball at wideout.

However, the Gators will have to battle with Miami and Texas for Pouncey between now and National Signing Day. Expect the Hurricanes to put up the biggest fight to land his commitment.
