Projecting Where 5-Star CB Lamont Wade Will Commit

Five-star cornerback Lamont Wade has narrowed down his recruitment and will announce his commitment on Saturday. The Campus Insiders staff gave its predictions on where the nation’s No. 3 cornerback and No. 17 overall player will end up.

It takes a special kind of player to charge a cover for people to go watch his college commitment ceremony, but Lamont Wade is certainly a special player. Penn State has been the favorite to land Wade for a while, and I don’t see that changing here. A Big Ten title in James Franklin’s back pocket will help give the Nittany Lions the edge here. West Virginia will certainly make it difficult, as I think the Mountaineers are the biggest threat to Penn State here. However, I still believe Wade will stay close to home and end up in Happy Valley.

UCLA is coming off of a disastrous season, while West Virginia enjoyed a very good campaign in 2016 under Dana Holgorsen and his staff. I believe the Mountaineers have a chance to steal the Pennsylvania native, but James Franklin and his staff will ultimately reel Wade in. The Nittany Lions enjoyed a breakout season last fall, and that should help land top talent such as Wade this recruiting cycle.

With the Nittany Lions resurgence and him being a in-state kid, how can the answer be anything other than Penn State? James Franklin is starting to build something special in Happy Valley – hey, anyone have them as the Big Ten champs coming into the season? – and Wade will be another piece to the puzzle.

Penn State’s performance this season could have great lasting effects over the course of the next few years in Happy Valley. Not only will this season’s success ultimately lead to Wade being a Nittany Lion, but it will likely go a long way in turning Penn State back into the perennial powerhouse program that it once was. Wade signing with Penn State could lead to a domino effect of top recruits following his lead.

This is James Franklin’s battle to lose, and lose he will not. The pitches for why Wade should play for his home-state team are endless, and Franklin will stave off any push from West Virginia to land one of the most dynamic defensive back prospects in the country.
