Report: Lane Kiffin To Be Named FAU Head Coach

Alabama offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin has reportedly agreed to become the new head coach at Florida Atlantic.

Florida Atlantic has found its new head coach, and it is Alabama offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin.

Per Brett McMurphy, Kiffin has accepted the position with the Owls for supposedly five years. It will be Kiffin’s second stint as a head coach, as he was the head man for Tennessee in 2009 and then USC from 2010 to ’13.

Kiffin has spent the last three seasons working under Crimson Tide head coach Nick Saban, and turning the Alabama offense into a force. The time in Tuscaloosa has also helped rehab Kiffin’s image, which took a beating after the way he departed Knoxville and then was later fired by the Trojans at the airport.

The hiring could be a home run for the Owls, who now have one of the best offensive minds in the country in charge and someone that can recruit a South Florida area flush with talent. Houston and USF were also places that Kiffin was rumored to be the next head coach, along with a move to LSU as its offensive coordinator under Ed Orgeron, who worked with Kiffin at both Tennessee and USC.

With Alabama in the upcoming College Football Playoff, Kiffin will remain with the Crimson Tide as offensive coordinator throughout the playoffs as they try to repeat as champions. Last season, after being hired by Georgia, then-Alabama defensive coordinator Kirby Smart pulled double duty, staying on through the postseason and helping the Crimson Tide win the national championship.

Kiffin is 35-21 as a collegiate head coach.
