Leonard Fournette Injury Update: LSU RB Likely To Miss Missouri Game

Leonard Fournette will likely be sidelined this week. The LSU running back is reportedly very doubtful to play Saturday when the Tigers face Missouri.

LSU star running back Leonard Fournette will likely miss LSU’s contest against Missouri on Saturday night.

According to ESPN’s Brett McMurphy, the Tiger is “very doubtful” to play in Ed Orgeron’s debut as the team’s head coach.

The status of Fournette has been in question all week after he re-injured his ankle against Auburn last Saturday.

Fournette missed Week 2 against Jacksonville State but still has 386 rushing yards and two touchdowns through three games this season. He originally injured the ankle during fall practice in August, which forced him into a walking boot. He ran for 138 yards on 23 carries against Wisconsin in the opener but walked slowly to the sideline after his final carry with less than two minutes left in the loss to the Badgers.

It will be a challenge for LSU to kick off the Orgeron era with a bang because the Mizzou defense has allowed only 3.3 yards per carry this year, and it held the Georgia backfield to just 2.7 yards per rush two weeks ago.

Tigers backup running back Derrius Guice is averaging 8.2 yards per carry and could start for virtually any other team, but LSU may have trouble moving the football against that Mizzou front.

Of course, from an individual standpoint, missing this game would very much hurt Fournette’s Heisman Trophy candidacy. But this is the type of injury that could hamper him all season if he does not take care of it sooner rather than later.
