Leonard Fournette Update: LSU RB Reportedly Out For Florida Game

The latest Leonard Fournette update has the star LSU running back reportedly sidelined for the Florida game.

The LSU Tigers will reportedly be without star running back Leonard Fournette when the Tigers face off against the Florida Gators on Saturday, according to Ross Dellenger of The Advocate.

LSU has not made an official announcement as of posting. However, he did not participate in earlier warmups.

Fournette is battling a chronic ankle injury. Reports on Friday stated that Fournette may require corrective surgery to restore full functionality of his ankle.

If Fournette does not play, it’ll be the fourth game he’s missed this season due to the injury. He sat out against Jacksonville State and then in back-to-back games against Missouri and Southern Mississippi. He made a huge statement in his return against Ole Miss three weeks ago, rushing for 284 yards and three touchdowns on 16 carries. For the season, Fournette has totaled 803 yards and 8 touchdowns on 117 carries.

While the loss of Fournette is a blow to the LSU offense, sophomore Derrius Guice has proved more than capable of filling his void. Guice rushed for 252 yards in last week’s 38-10 win over Arkansas. He’s carried the ball a total of 101 times for 881 yards and nine touchdowns in 2016.

UPDATE – 11:25 am CT – Fournette is now dressed and with the team during warmups.

UPDATE – 12:00 pm CT – Per Kaylee Hartung of SEC Network, Fournette has decided to play.
