LSU football Recruiting Update – October 2, 2016

LSU football recruiting update as of October 2, 2016.

This past weekend started on a high note with interim head coach Ed Orgeron getting a win in his debut with LSU. The Tigers ran through Missouri, 42-7, and everyone in Baton Rouge was feeling great about it.

Then, LSU lost a commitment from JUCO wide receiver Stephen Guidry. It was no big deal. The Tigers didn’t fall from their No. 6 class ranking, and they still have 19 commits.

But Sunday evening, LSU took an indirect hit when 5-star recruit Dylan Moses committed to Alabama. The Baton Rouge native is ranked as the No. 1 outside linebacker and No. 6 overall player in the 2017 class. He was once committed to the Tigers but backed off his pledge last year to simply take a look at all his options.

It was believed Moses would ultimately end up in Baton Rouge, but that all changed when LSU fired Les Miles. The two were very close.

Moses took an official visit to Tuscaloosa this weekend for the Crimson Tide’s 34-6 victory over Kentucky, and he decided to cancel all of his other visits and pledge to the Tigers’ dreaded rival.

On the flip side, he is only one recruit, and LSU is still on track to end up with a top-10 class if Orgeron can convince the Tigers’ commits that the program is headed in the right direction — a large part of the interview process that is the rest of this season.

He seems to be off to the right start in that sense. When LSU beat up on Mizzou, there were a number of current commits there to watch it. Four-star wide receiver Jhamon Ausbon, 4-star safety Grant Delpit, 4-star offensive guard Saahdiq Charles, 3-star defensive end Aaron Moffitt, and 2018 4-star cornerback Kelvin Joseph were all in attendance.

In addition, the Tigers hosted JUCO defensive end Isaiah Buggs, running back Travis Etienne, offensive tackle Adrian Ealy and defensive end Justin Harris.

Performances like this most recent one will help both Orgeron and LSU simultaneously.
