Marvin Wilson Recruiting Update: FSU Visiting Before LSU Official Visit

Five-star defensive tackle Marvin Wilson will receive a visit from the Florida State Seminoles staff right before he gives the LSU Tigers an official visit.

The recruiting dead period is officially over, meaning head coaches and their assistants can once again hit the road and start talking to prospects in person.

One of the nation’s seven 5-star recruits who remains uncommitted is Marvin Wilson, the No. 1 defensive tackle and No. 11 overall player in the country.

Wilson’s final schools are down to Florida State, LSU, Ohio State, Oklahoma and USF. However, it’s Ed Orgeron’s Tigers who are scheduled to get Wilson’s first official visit following the dead period. He’ll have one more official visit remaining after that. He used three this past fall: FSU, Oklahoma and Ohio State.

Regarding FSU, the Seminoles staff is set to make its way toward Wilson for a visit before he heads to Baton Rouge on Friday, according to 247Sports. Associate head coach and defensive tackles coach Odell Haggins is the one leading the charge on Wilson’s recruitment, and that’s good news for FSU. Aside from potentially being Wilson’s position coach, Haggins has quite the resume on the recruiting trail. He’s landed names like Derwin James, Karlos Williams, Levonta Taylor and Eddie Goldman, among others.

Even with the impromptu visit, landing Wilson is a tall order for FSU. LSU has been trending upward, especially with Orgeron now in the driver’s seat for the Tigers. But the attention shouldn’t be turned away from Urban Meyer’s Buckeyes.

If Wilson were to join Ohio State, he’d be the fourth Texas native to join its class. The Buckeyes already have commitments from 5-star athlete Jeffrey Okudah, 5-star outside linebacker Baron Browning and 4-star athlete J.K. Dobbins.
