Memphis vs. Cincinnati Game Preview

When: Friday, November 18 – 8:00 p.m. ET
Where: Nippert Stadium, Cincinnati, OH
TV Broadcast: CBSSN

Memphis suffered a heartbreaking defeat to USF 49-42 this past week as the Tigers could not stop Bulls quarterback Quinton Flowers. Quarterback Riley Ferguson had a big day, throwing for 331 yards and three touchdowns while a group effort led to 277 rushing yards.

Cincinnati’s miserable season continued with a 24-3 loss to UCF in which both Hayden Moore and Gunner Kiel saw time under center, with both throwing an interception and no touchdowns.

What To Know About Memphis

Ferguson is having a great year, only 104 yards from reaching the 3,000 yard passing mark and throwing for 24 touchdowns. The combination of him and running back Doroland Dorceus makes for a lethal backfield that can move the ball at all times.

The problem with the Tigers is on defense. Memphis is 93rd in the country in total defense, allowing 444.4 yards per game and 27.3 points. The Bearcats offense has been struggling, though, and the Tigers should be able to force either Moore or Kiel into mistakes.

What to Know About Cincinnati

The quarterback situation has been troubling all season long, and it looks like nothing will be solved. What isn’t helping the cause is the fact the Bearcats are 117th in the nation in rushing offense, averaging just 118.40 yards on the ground per game.

Trying to find a way to slow down Ferguson and Dorceus might be too much to ask of a Cincinnati defense that is just a bit above mediocre.

Offense: Memphis. Expect Ferguson to have another big outing.

Defense: Tie. There are no winners when it comes to these two defenses.

Special Teams: Memphis. The Bearcats have made only 10-of-16 field goal attempts.

Coaching: Memphis. Is Tommy Tuberville on the way out? It seems that is possible.

Intangibles: Memphis. The Tigers still have a shot at eight wins and a decent bowl game.

Memphis vs. Cincinnati Prediction

If the Bearcats can’t figure out who they want under center, this one could be over early, as Memphis is rolling on offense. The Nippert Stadium crowd has basically checked out on the season, so the home-field advantage usually afforded to the Bearcats won’t be there. Ferguson has a huge day, and Mike Norvell continues to show he was the right hire for Memphis.
