Nick Chubb Injury Update: Georgia RB Out For Tennessee Game

Nick Chubb’s injury status is official. The Georgia running back won’t play Saturday when the Bulldogs face Tennessee in an important SEC East clash.

Georgia coach Kirby Smart said all week he hoped Nick Chubb would be healthy enough to face No. 11 Tennessee on Saturday. Unfortunately for the Bulldogs, that won’t be the case.

Chubb is still dealing with the effects of a high left ankle sprain and won’t be able to play for No. 25 Georgia when it hosts the Volunteers for an important SEC East battle. Chubb’s father, Henry, provided the latest update Friday afternoon.

“He twisted it trying to make a cut against Ole Miss,” the elder Chubb said. “He’s in good spirits and all. He understands it. The doctor said he’d need a couple weeks, so he’ll probably play next week.”

Chubb rushed 12 times for 57 yards in the first half of last week’s 45-14 loss at Ole Miss that dropped the Bulldogs to 3-1. He was sidelined late in the second quarter, though, and didn’t return.

Smart said Chubb was receiving treatment throughout the week and seemed to be getting better, but Chubb never fully recovered. Chubb’s father said his son is extremely upset at the fact that he won’t be able to play in such an important game.

Junior back Sony Michel will start in Chubb’s place, with freshmen Brian Herrien and Elijah Holyfield also getting some carries. Smart said he’s confident in the depth he has at the running back position even without Chubb.

“I feel better now than I did because we’ve got two kids who have played a little bit in Brian and Elijah,” Smart said.
