Ohio State vs. Wisconsin Prediction Roundtable – What’s Going To Happen

Ohio State vs. Wisconsin prediction roundtable with the Campus Insiders staff. Breaking down what will happen in the game between the Buckeyes and Badgers.

The No. 2 Ohio State Buckeyes hit the road this weekend to put their undefeated record on the line against the No. 8 Wisconsin Badgers. The Badgers only loss came against Ohio State’s arch-rival, the Michigan Wolverines.

Ohio State holds a 57-18-5 lead in the series, and has won four straight contests over Wisconsin dating back to 2011. The Buckeyes have won 7 of the last 8 matchups, dropping the 2010 contest in Madison.

The part of me that wants to pick Wisconsin sees that it hasn’t allowed more than 17 points, held Michigan – which is averaging 50 points per game – to 14 and has had two weeks to prepare for a home game under the lights. Then I look at the fact the Badgers finished with 159 total yards against the Wolverines while Alex Hornibrook threw three interceptions, and realize Ohio State’s defense is just as good – or better – than Michigan’s.

Wisconsin has a top-10 defense in the country, too. Unfortunately it’s the third-best in its own conference. This is going to come down to which team wins the turnover battle, and the Buckeyes’ plus-8 margin is one of the best in the nation. J.T. Barrett will prove to be too much, and Ohio State wins by 10.

Our HR maven here at Campus Insiders has some kind of pull with Wisconsin athletics and will be in attendance at Camp Randall. She had a bit of a quandary over whether to attend this game or head to Wrigleyville for Game 1 of the NLCS. After fretting aloud, something clicked, and she laughed, “Well, I can watch the Cubs game from the box in the stadium.”

She chose poorly.

Sucks for her that Ohio State is really, really good on defense (10.8 points per game) and really, really good on offense (55.2 points per game). Wisconsin is an excellent team, just not at the caliber of this Ohio State squad. Also, I’d have to imagine Urban Meyer wants to get a few style points and beat the Badgers by more than seven (cc: Jim Harbaugh).

Enjoy watching your team get railroaded by Ohio State, HR. I’ll hold down the fort at Murphy’s and hopefully be dancing in the streets at the corner of Clark and Addison.

Man, the Badgers are banged up pretty badly right about now. If you saw it, you might think their injury list is the line at the DMV. T.J. Watt is going to lead the defensive effort, but Wisconsin is too hurt to really keep pace with Ohio State. J.T. Barrett will be solid like he has been all season, and Curtis Samuel is going to find his way into the end zone on the ground. Keep an eye on Demario McCall. That kid can fly. If the Buckeyes get him out on the perimeter, he’s gone. Ohio State wins by two touchdowns.

I have a cast on my left foot (fractured heel, out for the immediate future) and our aforementioned HR director thought it would be hilarious to write “You’re Fired” on it. I was immediately amazed that someone who went to Wisconsin used the proper form of you’re/your, and congratulated her on the feat. You know what is going to be even funnier? When she slumps back into the office Monday morning after Ohio State puts a beating on her Badgers. Jump Around on THAT, Lauren.
