5-Star CB Patrick Surtain Jr. Revises Top Schools He’s Favoring

Patrick Surtain Jr. is a prospect to watch during the 2018 recruiting cycle. He recently talked about the top schools he’s currently favoring.

If the name Patrick Surtain Jr. rings a bell, it’s probably because his dad was a three-time Pro Bowler in the NFL, playing the first six years with the Miami Dolphins before spending his final four years with the Kansas City Chiefs.

His son is now next in line to carry the family football torch, and he’s a more elite prospect than his dad was coming out of high school.

Surtain Jr. checked in as the No. 1 cornerback and No. 8 overall player in the CI 25 for 2018. He’s 6’2″ and 192 pounds, and has the skills and talent to make an immediate impact at the college level.

But where he’ll do that has yet to be determined.

Surtain Jr. fields offers from the likes of Alabama, Auburn, Clemson, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, LSU, Miami, Notre, Dame, Ohio State, Oklahoma, USC, and the list goes on and on.

While he’s yet to decide, as of February six teams are standing out above the rest. He’s revised his top schools a couple of times throughout the process, including last summer and during the 2016 season.

“I’m still waiting to commit,” Surtain told Gridiron Now. “I do have a couple schools in mind — LSU, Alabama, Florida, Clemson, Florida State and Ohio State. Those are the top schools I favor.”

Florida replaced Miami this time around.

Of those, there continues to be a strong draw to LSU, one of the schools perennially in the DBU debate. He named the Tigers his favorite last summer, and it continues to be that way. His dad is also originally from New Orleans and he has family in Louisiana.

“You know, I loved LSU since I was a kid. My family lives up there, so that makes them [at] the top of my list,” he told SEC Country. “It’s close between them and Florida State, but LSU gets the edge because of those two things. Another thing is that it feels almost like home, so that’s a major key.”

Despite his collection of top schools, he still plans to visit Clemson, Miami, Ohio State and either Michigan or USC.

Whoever does end up landing the Fort Lauderdale, Florida prospect will be getting a player confident in his abilities.

“No one throws my way,” he stated when speaking with Gridiron Now.
