Penn State Lands 3-Star Texas CB Trent Gordon

Three-star cornerback Trent Gordon has committed to Penn State. The Nittany Lions now have 12 pledges in their 2018 class.

James Franklin and his Penn State staff are continuing to roll on the recruiting trail coming off of their Big Ten championship season.

The latest commitment to the Nittany Lions comes from three-star Texas cornerback Trent Gordon, a 5-foot-11, 172-pounder who announced his decision via video on Wednesday morning. He chose the Nittany Lions over nine other programs from a final list that included LSU, Michigan and Oklahoma.

The Class of 2018 product from Manvel High School (Manvel, Texas) visited Happy Valley earlier this month, and the visit seemingly made Franklin, cornerbacks coach Terry Smith and the Nittany Lions the program to beat. The pledge strengthens an already talented ’18 haul.

Gordon had planned on visiting some spring games at other schools and was interested in checking out some programs on the West Coast, but this pledge to the Nittany Lions would seem to close those doors. Of course, no commitment is binding until a National Letter of Intent is signed. But, for now, Penn State has Gordon in the fold after he had taken unofficial trips to see schools like Ohio State, Michigan and Tennessee.

While Gordon has the body and skills to play corner or safety, look for him to stick at CB unless he grows an inch or two by the time he arrives on campus next year.

The Texas native is Penn State’s second verbal commitment from the Lone Star State in this cycle, joining four-star safety Isaiah Humphries. Penn State now has one corner commit in its current 12-member Class of 2018 that ranks only behind Miami and Notre Dame nationally.
