Overview

kenpom.com projection: Wofford def. Seton Hall 74-69

Betting Line: Wofford -2.5 (Westgate Las Vegas SuperBook)

No. 7 seed Wofford

Coach: Mike Young

Record: 29-4 (18-0)

Conference tournament finish: Won Southern

Player to Watch: Fletcher Magee

Young has been at Wofford since 1989 as either an assistant or head coach. He’s built the program into a powerhouse in the Southern Conference, which is why the Terriers didn’t lose a single conference game all season. They also haven’t lost since Dec. 19.

Wofford is second in the country in 3-point field goal percentage and the roster is littered with marksmen. Five of Wofford’s six key rotation players shoot better than 38 percent from deep; four of them are better than 41 percent. If Seton Hall doesn’t defend the perimeter, the Terriers will have a field day.

Magee is a star, but he’s going to need some help in this one. Wofford does have two other players averaging double figures and they’ll have to make their presence felt to take some pressure off Magee.

The Terriers lost to all four of their non-conference opponents and each of those teams made the tournament. Is Wofford legitimate or did the weaker Southern Conference allow it to enter the field?

No. 10 seed Seton Hall

Coach: Kevin Willard

Record: 20-13 (9-9)

Conference tournament finish: Runner-up

Player to Watch: Myles Powell

The Pirates got some big wins at the end of the season to put themselves in the tournament, beating Marquette twice and Villanova once in a span of 10 days. They’re .500 in their last eight contests though, so consistency is an issue.

Powell is the best player on the team and he doesn’t have much help. He averaged 22.9 points per game during the season and had to carry Seton Hall offensively. Myles Cale is the only other player averaging double figures, but he’s made a nice leap during his sophomore season. Can that growth continue in the tournament?

The Pirates lost to Nebraska, Saint Louis and Louisville in their non-conference schedule, but have a huge win against Kentucky to look back on. Surprisingly, the Pirates are more tested than the Terriers and it could show in this battle.
