3-Star OT Samuel Cosmi Flips From Houston To Texas

Three-star offensive tackle Samuel Cosmi flipped his commitment from Houston to Texas on Monday, giving the Longhorns 16 total commits in the 2017 recruiting class.

In late November, Tom Herman nearly left Houston to take the reins at LSU. However, a push from Texas led him to Austin instead.

Unfortunately for Houston, the Cougars have been paying the price on the recruiting trail ever since. Herman has landed 11 commits for the Longhorns since then, and three of them followed him to Austin.

The latest is 3-star prospect Samuel Cosmi, who flipped his commitment from Houston to Texas on Monday afternoon.

Cosmi, a Humble, Texas native, is ranked as the No. 101 offensive tackle in the country and the No. 13 offensive tackle in the Lone Star State. He became the 11th recruit to back off a pledge to Houston since Herman took the job with the Longhorns.

The 3-star prospect released a brief statement regarding his decision to flip his pledge from the Cougars to Texas.

“I am so excited and proud to say I will be a Longhorn. God is good. Hook ’em.”

With the addition of Cosmi, the Longhorns now have 16 total commits in the cycle and have moved up from No. 33 to No. 31 in the 2017 recruiting class rankings. Houston, on the other hand, is down to No. 75 with 15 commits in its class.

At 6-foot-5, 260 lbs Cosmi can do some damage as a run blocker. He’ll get his hands inside on a defender and drive him back with ease. He needs to work on his footwork and pass protection, but there is a definite ceiling as a right tackle for him at Texas.
