SEC Bowl Record All-Time

Looking at the SEC’s bowl record all-time with Bowl Season upon us. Here’s how the SEC has faired in its bowl games, as well as which teams tend to do best in the postseason.

For the better part of the last two decades in college football, the SEC has been considered the top conference in college football. With 11 national titles and 6 Heisman winners (most among all major conferences), the conference’s dominance during that stretch is unquestionable.

That dominance is also reflected in the conference’s bowl record. At 62 games over .500 with a .574 win percentage, the SEC is the epitome of postseason success. Just as in the regular season, Alabama leads the way when it comes to representing the conference in Bowl Season. With 37 all-time postseason wins, the Crimson Tide not only lead the way for the SEC, but for the entire country.

That success has only been amplified the past decade. Since the 2006-07 postseason, the conference’s win percentage has jumped to .670 while posting only one non-winning postseason, going 5-5 during the 2010-11 campaign.

While the BCS Era was a boom for the SEC, the College Football Playoff Era has been more of a mixed bag. SEC teams went 17-10 in BCS Bowl games, with the Crimson Tide, Gators and Tigers from Baton Rouge combining for 12 of those wins. Alabama was also 3-0 in BCS national title games, yet 0-3 in all other major BCS bowls. Amongst all the SEC teams to appear in a BCS bowl, only Arkansas had a losing record, falling in their lone appearance when they played Ohio State in 2011 Sugar Bowl.

In two seasons under the playoff format, the major bowls have been a case of feast or famine for the SEC. During the inaugural Playoff, the conference went 0-3 in New Year’s Six bowls, with Alabama falling to the eventual champion Buckeyes in the national semifinal. Last year was a completely different story, as the Crimson Tide won two playoff games to claim their 16th national title, while Ole Miss dominated Oklahoma State in the Sugar Bowl.

Below is the all-time bowl record for all current members of the SEC, as well as the conferences all-time postseason record.
