5-Star DT Taron Vincent Commits To Ohio State Buckeyes

Five-star defensive tackle Taron Vincent committed to Ohio State on Sunday afternoon, giving the Buckeyes five total commits in the 2018 recruiting class rankings.

The 2018 recruiting cycle did not see Urban Meyer’s Buckeyes get off to the same start they did a year ago. Through the end of March, Ohio State had only four total commits. By that point in the 2017, the Buckeyes’ class had already hit double digits.

The momentum is starting to pick up for them now, though, as they landed the fifth member of their 2018 class on Sunday when 5-star prospect Taron Vincent committed to Ohio State, who now rises to No. 9 in the class rankings.

Last month, Vincent, the son of former NFL defensive back Troy Vincent, told Campus Insiders he would be deciding between the Buckeyes and the Florida State Seminoles. A month later, he decided to don scarlet and gray.

The IMG Academy product is ranked as the No. 1 defensive tackle and No. 7 overall player in the CI 25 recruiting rankings.  Vincent released a brief statement regarding his decision to join Ohio State’s class.

“”[I] just would like to thank God for taking me along this journey. [I’m] proud to say that I’ve committed to THE Ohio State University.”

And while this current class isn’t off to the same start as last year’s, Buckeyes fans should still be excited about what is brewing right now in Columbus.

Ohio State’s four other commits are all blue-chip recruits. Quarterback Emory Jones is a 5-star prospect: the No. 4 quarterback and No. 22 overall player in the country. Then there are the 4-star players: running back Brian Snead, safety Jaiden Woodbey and athlete Jaelen Gill.

So, what the class is lacking in relative quantity, it’s making up for with substantial quality. The Buckeyes are taking their time and addressing each position group.

And now, with Vincent on board, Ohio State has a difference maker in the trenches.
