5 Storylines, Predictions For Tennessee In Music City Bowl

Tennessee is set to take on Nebraska in the Music City Bowl, so here are some storylines and predictions for the Volunteers ahead of the game.

The season went as badly as it could for Tennessee, with surprise losses, player departures, and an extraordinary number of injuries. For Butch Jones and the Volunteers, a win against Nebraska in the Music City Bowl would take some sting off of the year, and help them gain a little momentum going into 2017.

Here are five thoughts and predictions as the Volunteers take on the Cornhuskers in the Music City Bowl on December 30.

Tackle Machine

Defensive end Derek Barnett is a monster on the line, recording 12 sacks this season along with 18 tackles for a loss. Barnett ready to pin his ears back and create chaos for 60 minutes. Expect a big game from him as he plays likely his final game as a Volunteer.

Dobbs Does It

Quarterback Joshua Dobbs will also be playing in his final game in the orange and white, so expect him to have a big game. Dobbs has been the one constant for the Volunteers over the past three seasons, and while no championships have come his way, he will long be remembered by Tennessee fans as a competitor.

Speaking Of Championships

The commentators will mention Jones’ calling his players “champions of life” at least once to a delighted viewing audience. Jones, who could be considered the king of coach speak, is not afraid of releasing clichés at an alarming rate.

Where’s Alvin?

Sorry about The Chipmunks reference, but running back Alvin Kamara will have a rough day against the Nebraska defense that allows just 141 yards per game. Him struggling could be a lose-win for the Volunteers, as it might waver him toward coming back for his senior season.

Home Game

Nebraska fans are known for traveling well, but you have to think that Tennessee orange will be the color of the day with the game being in Nashville. That could make a huge difference for the Cornhuskers.
