5-Star QB Trevor Lawrence Reaffirms Georgia, Clemson As Top Schools

Five-star quarterback Trevor Lawrence has reaffirmed Georgia and Clemson as his top two teams.

Not only did Kirby Smart’s Bulldogs upset Auburn, 13-7, on Saturday, they also had a very important visitor on campus to watch it all go down.

Five-star prospect Trevor Lawrence was in Athens for the game, and it was definitely a step forward for Georgia to pick up the win with Lawrence watching from up close.

The No. 1 quarterback and No. 1 overall player in the 2018 recruiting class spoke to Rivals about how well the visit went.

“It was good,” Lawrence said. “I thought they did really well throwing the ball.”

Lawrence has plenty of offers from Power Five schools, with Clemson, Georgia, Florida and Tennessee being the ones chasing after him the hardest. The Cartersville, Georgia native had previously named the Tigers and Bulldogs as his top choices, and he reaffirmed that this past weekend.

“It’s pretty much just UGA and Clemson,” Lawrence said, still unsure of when he’ll actually make a decision and commit.

This is a tricky situation with Lawrence. He grew up a Vols fan, but he’s only a two-hour car ride away from Athens (and three hours to Clemson).

Georgia has fully embraced the Jacob Eason era, and it also has 5-star quarterback Jake Fromm early enrolling in the 2017 recruiting class. That’s a lot of competition and a lot of waiting around for the nation’s No. 1 player. He’s preached how he embraces competition — as many recruits do — but it’s still a crowded depth chart.

There’s not exactly a clear path at Clemson either. The Tigers will be losing Deshaun Watson to the 2017 NFL Draft, but they still have 4-star quarterbacks Chase Brice and Hunter Johnson committed in the 2017 cycle right now.

It’ll be interesting to see how Lawrence’s recruitment shakes out, but he’s made it clear: right now it’s a two-horse race between Clemson and Georgia.
