5-Star QB Trevor Lawrence To Receive Visit From Florida OC Doug Nussmeier

Five-star quarterback Trevor Lawrence will reportedly receive a visit from Florida offensive coordinator Doug Nussmeier, as the Gators are battling with Clemson and Georgia for the No. 1 player in the 2018 recruiting class.

The Florida Gators have seen their 2016 regular season come to an end following a 54-16 loss to Alabama in the SEC title game.

Now, they can start to turn a little more attention toward the recruiting trail, which will get the bulk of their focus while also preparing to face Iowa in the Outback Bowl on Jan. 2.

Even though National Signing Day for the 2017 recruiting class is on Feb. 1, that doesn’t mean Jim McElwain’s staff is solely focusing on this year’s crop of prospects. On Monday, Florida offensive coordinator Doug Nussmeier will reportedly meet with 5-star quarterback Trevor Lawrence, the No. 1 overall player in the 2018 recruiting class, according to Blake Alderman of Rivals.

Lawrence had previously shaved his list of schools down to Clemson and Georgia, leaving the Gators on the outside looking in. But Florida isn’t ready to call it quits yet.

While Nussmeier is trying to convince Lawrence on the idea of playing in Gainesville, McElwain and offensive line coach Mike Summers will be doing the same for Alex Leatherwood, an Alabama commit and the No. 3 offensive tackle in the 2017 cycle. Leatherwood is scheduled to spend his last official visit in Gainesville on the weekend of Dec. 9.

Wide receivers coach Kerry Dixon will be visiting 4-star offensive guard and Michigan State commit Jordan Reid while also paying a visit to his teammate, 4-star cornerback Ambry Thomas.

The recruiting dead period sets in on Dec. 12.
