UCLA vs. Washington State Prediction Roundtable – What’s Going To Happen

UCLA vs. Washington State prediction roundtable with the Campus Insiders staff. Breaking down what will happen in the game between the Bruins and Cougars.

How about those Cougars?! I thoroughly enjoyed watching Wazzu score at will against Stanford last week. Mike Leach’s team clearly has put the sting of losses to Eastern Washington and Boise State by a combined six points behind it, and is rolling during a three-game winning streak. With Josh Rosen’s status in doubt and UCLA coach Jim Mora more worried about Rosen’s long-term health, I’m going with Washington State to win by at least a couple touchdowns.

If this game were scheduled earlier in the season, I probably would have felt much different — more optimistic about the Bruins. I love everything about Josh Rosen’s game, yet Soso Jamabo has been unable to get into a groove. Plus, Luke Falk is dialed in right now. Falk will connect with Gabe Marks for at least 100 yards and a couple of touchdowns. Rosen will get his, but Wazzu will take the game.

Josh Rosen exited the game against Arizona State with a leg injury, so we don’t know if he will be able to start or if the Bruins will have to go with Mike Fafaul, who threw two interceptions against the Sun Devils. The Bruins still can’t get their run game going, and their defense will be going up against Luke Falk in this one. Not even a healthy Rosen can save Jim Mora’s bunch, as the Cougars pull away in the fourth quarter in Pullman.

Matt Stanford

It’s going to be in the 40s and raining in Pullman Saturday night. How do you think a team from Southern California that doesn’t run the ball well, and could be missing its star quarterback, will do? Mike Leach’s “Air Raid” offense has started to find its footing in the ground game recently and the defense is showing signs of life along the front seven. I see Wazzu weathering UCLA and the, well, weather… and extending its win streak to four games.

Washington State 34, UCLA 20

I love Washington State alumni/fans, including the one right above me. They are a hoot and never take themselves too seriously. Now that they are winning again, they are even more fun, and when you get a few drinks in Matt Stanford, he can be a lot of fun to hang out with. I still need to make it out to Pullman for a game. The Cougars win and keep the roll going. Much love to all of my Wazzu friends!
