Top Uncommitted Recruits At End Of Dead Period

The dead period has ended, and now coaches can hit the road to start visiting prospects in the 2017 recruiting class. Here is a list of the remaining uncommitted blue-chip recruits and predictions for where they’ll commit.

The recruiting dead period is finally over, and now it’s time for coaches to make the rounds. They’ll go from high school to high school, from home to home, looking to put the final touches on their respective 2017 recruiting classes. They better hurry, though. National Signing Day on Feb. 1 is right around the corner.

There are only seven 5-star recruits who are still waiting to announce their college commitments with Devon Hunter, the nation’s No. 1 safety and No. 5 overall player, set to take his pledge public on Jan. 20.

Here is a complete list of the uncommitted 5-star and 4-star prospects at the end of the dead period.

Uncommitted 5-Star Recruits

Devon Hunter, No. 1 S, No. 5 Overall

The home-state Virginia Tech Hokies still appear to be the frontrunner for his commitment, but Devon Hunter has a great relationship with Florida defensive backs coach Torrian Gray. Keep an eye on the Gators in his recruitment. Hunter will announce on Jan. 20.

Prediction: Virginia Tech

Marvin Wilson, No. 1 DT, No. 11 Overall

It may sound weird, but Charlie Strong’s USF Bulls legitimately have a shot at landing Marvin Wilson. It doesn’t appear they’ll get him, but Strong at least gives them a fighting chance. Florida State, LSU, Ohio State and Oklahoma are the other big contenders, but it appears as though the Buckeyes have the edge.

Prediction: Ohio State

Austin Jackson, No. 6 OT, No. 30 Overall

This is USC’s race to lose. Arizona State is trying to lure him away from the Trojans and keep him close to home, but the odds are against that happening. Oregon and Washington are also vying for his pledge.

Prediction: USC

Joseph Lewis, No. 1 WR, No. 15 Overall

This, like with Jackson, is pointing toward Clay Helton’s Trojans. Nebraska is trying to pull Joseph Lewis to Lincoln, but that’s highly unlikely. Oklahoma and Oregon are also in the mix.

Prediction: USC

Tedarrell Slaton, No. 2 OG, No. 34 Overall

He recently named the Gators his leader, and it appears Florida will follow through on getting him to commit when it’s all said and done. It’s not guaranteed he’ll play on offense, though. Slaton has expressed interest in playing defensive tackle, which would fill a need for Jim McElwain’s team.

Prediction: Florida

DeVonta Smith, No. 2 WR, No. 24 Overall

The Tide will continue to roll. Alabama already nabbed one 5-star Louisiana native in outside linebacker Dylan Moses, and Nick Saban’s team is now looking to land another top Louisiana prospect in DeVonta Smith.

Prediction: Alabama

Aubrey Solomon, No. 2 DT, No. 20 Overall

The former Michigan commit now appears to be staying closer to home, as the battle has really come down to Alabama and Georgia.

Prediction: Alabama

Uncommitted 4-Star Recruits

Willie Gay, No. 6 OLB, No. 89 Overall

There are four teams left in Willie Gay’s recruitment: LSU, Michigan, Mississippi State and Ole Miss. The Starkville native felt at home when he visited Ann Arbor, but keep an eye on the Tigers. They desperately need to add a linebacker in this class.

Prediction: LSU

K.J. Jarrell, No. 31 S, Unranked Overall

This is all Arizona State all the way.

Prediction: Arizona State

Jeff Thomas, No. 7 WR, No. 50 Overall

This is going to be a close one. Mark Richt’s Hurricanes have taken a late lead, but Illinois is still in it, as Lovie Smith tries to keep Jeff Thomas close to home. Oregon is also in the picture but barely.

Prediction: Miami

K’Lavon Chaisson, No. 5 DE, No. 51 Overall

USC has certainly tried, but this one is going to come down to LSU and Texas. However, it appears Tom Herman will win the battle.

Prediction: Texas

Greg Johnson, No. 8 ATH, No. 98 Overall

This is another Nebraska-USC battle. Notre Dame is also fighting for Greg Johnson.

Prediction: USC

Lynn Bowden, No. 4 ATH, No. 60 Overall

Kentucky, Michigan State and Penn State are all in it, but Mark Stoops’ Wildcats hold the edge.

Prediction: Kentucky

Connor Wedington, No. 6 ATH, No. 66 Overall

Baylor, Notre Dame, Stanford and UCLA are the ones competing for Connor Wedington, but it looks like David Shaw’s staff is going to land him.

Prediction: Stanford

Lagaryonn Carson, No. 7 DE, No. 67 Overall

He was the Longhorns’ first 2017 commit and has been the biggest advocator of the program during the cycle. He’s supposed to get a visit from Tom Herman soon to talk about giving him a scholarship offer. If Lagaryonn Carson doesn’t re-join Texas’ class, watch out for Baylor and Texas A&M.

Prediction: Texas

Anthony McFarland, No. 6 RB, No. 69 Overall

With Najee Harris officially at Alabama, the Crimson Tide are basically out of it. That leaves Maryland and Miami. But it appears as though D.J. Durkin will land his future starting tailback.

Prediction: Maryland

Oliver Martin, No. 30 WR, No. 216 Overall

Both Iowa and Notre Dame are leading the pack for Oliver Martin’s commitment, and both Michigan State and Oregon are trying to catch up.

Prediction: Notre Dame

Jarez Parks, No. 4 DE, No. 48 Overall

Alabama, Florida, Florida State and North Carolina are all jostling for Parks. And this may come down to whether or not the Crimson Tide will take him. If not, expect the Gators and Seminoles to battle it out.

Prediction: Alabama

Henry Ruggs, No. 23 WR, No. 173 Overall

Here is another situation in which Alabama dictates how the recruitment goes. The Crimson Tide already have wide receivers Tyrell Shavers and Jerry Jeudy committed, and are close to reeling in DeVonta Smith. That would leave the Gators in a great position to add Ruggs.

Prediction: Florida

Jay Tufele, No. 3 DT, No. 37 Overall

Michigan, Ohio State and Utah are the last teams standing in Jay Tufele’s recruitment. But if he doesn’t choose his home-state Utes, expect him to pick the Buckeyes over the Wolverines.

Prediction: Ohio State

Cordarrian Richardson, No. 7 RB, No. 78 Overall

Willie Taggart holds the upperhand here. Michigan State is involved, but it looks like the Ducks will land their guy.

Prediction: Oregon

LaBryan Ray, No. 9 DE, No. 86 Overall

Alabama, Florida and Tennessee will all get visits before National Signing Day, but it looks like the Crimson Tide have this one locked up.

Prediction: Alabama

This is a classic Alabama-LSU battle with the Tigers ahead. TCU is also in the picture.

Prediction: LSU

Jaylen Harris, No. 14 WR, No. 108 Overall

Michigan State and Penn State are trying. But with Tyjon Lindsey no longer being a Buckeye, it appears Ohio State will land Jaylen Harris.

Prediction: Ohio State

Todd Harris, No. 9 S, No. 113 Overall

Alabama, Arizona State, LSU, Mississippi State and Ole Miss are all involved. But Todd Harris will most likely end up in Baton Rouge.

Prediction: LSU

Elijah Gates, No. 11 CB, No. 117 Overall

This one is between Oregon and UCLA.

Prediction: UCLA

James Robinson, No. 17 WR, No. 118 Overall

Oklahoma is certainly a contender, but Florida is the clear-cut favorite.

Prediction: Florida

Chaz Ah You, No. 10 S, No. 121 Overall

It’s a little hazy what’s going on here. BYU, Stanford, UCLA and Washington are all in it.

Prediction: Washington

Isaiah Pola-Mao, No. 12 S, No. 126 Overall

The nephew of former USC and Pittsburgh Steelers star Troy Polamalu, Isaiah Pola-Mao appears to be down to Arizona State, USC and Washington. But with the way the Huskies have played this past season, the edge goes to Chris Petersen’s staff.

Prediction: Washington

Brad Stewart, No. 13 CB, No. 133 Overall

He may be from New Orleans, but this one is pointing toward the Florida Gators.

Prediction: Florida

Chevin Calloway, No. 14 CB, No. 137 Overall

The former Iowa commit picked up a Texas offer, but Arkansas appears to be in the lead.

Prediction: Arkansas

Nico Collins, No. 21 WR, No. 147 Overall

Michigan has been the favorite to land Nico Collins for a long time. Alabama and Georgia are in the running, but this one screams Wolverines.

Prediction: Michigan

Markaviest Bryant, No. 14 DE, No. 166 Overall

Georgia will likely win this battle with Auburn.

Prediction: Georgia

Levi Jones, No. 14 OLB, No. 189 Overall

It looks like we have another Florida-Florida State fight. The Seminoles hold the advantage, but the Gators are still in it.

Prediction: Florida State

Christopher Henderson, No. 14 ATH, No. 192 Overall

The former Miami commit has been a Gator lean for a long time. Alabama and Miami are still in it, but expect him to head to Gainesville.

Prediction: Florida

Chester Graves, No. 13 DE, No. 153 Overall

This one looks like it’ll come down to Mizzou and Ole Miss.

Prediction: Missouri

Deommodore Lenoir, No. 8 CB, No. 87 Overall

Expect Deommodore Lenoir to re-join Oregon’s class now that Willie Taggart is calling the shots.

Leonard Warner, No. 16 OLB, No. 195 Overall

Expect Kirby Smart’s Bulldogs to win this one, too.

Prediction: Georgia

Ryan Johnson, No. 17 DE, No. 203 Overall

Auburn looks like it’s going to beat out Alabama for Ryan Johnson.

Prediction: Auburn

Thayer Munford, No. 23 OT, No. 207 Overall

Kentucky, Iowa State, Ohio State and Pitt are all battling. But it looks like the Wildcats will land him.

Prediction: Kentucky

Travis Etienne, No. 17 RB, No. 209 Overall

The contenders are LSU, Oregon, Tennessee and Texas A&M. However, it appears Ed Orgeron’s staff will add the talented halfback to its class.

Prediction: LSU

Latavious Brini, No. 20 CB, No. 210 Overall

Georgia, Miami, Oregon and Virginia Tech are all pushing. Mark Richt will most likely bring Latavious Brini to Coral Gables, though.

Prediction: Miami

The former Notre Dame commit looks like he’s headed to Stanford.

Prediction: Stanford

Tyler Taylor, No. 20 OLB, No. 249 Overall

Auburn, LSU and Oklahoma are all in the mix.

Prediction: Auburn

North Carolina and Pitt are trying, but it’s hard to see Louisville not landing A.J. Davis.

Prediction: Louisville

Thomas Johnson, No. 10 ILB, No. 259 Overall

Arkansas, Arizona State, Auburn, Iowa and Ole Miss are all neck-and-neck.

Prediction: Auburn

Braylon Sanders, No. 40 WR, No. 260 Overall

Georgia doesn’t necessarily need to add Braylon Sanders, as the Bulldogs can only take so many players. Expect Mississippi State to be the move.
