USC vs. UCLA Prediction Roundtable – What’s Going To Happen

USC vs. UCLA prediction roundtable with the Campus Insiders staff. Breaking down what will happen during Saturday’s game between the Trojans and Bruins.

Jeff Bartl

Sam Darnold and the Trojans are on a roll, and there’s no reason to believe this UCLA team will be able to slow them down. If USC can steamroll Washington, the Bruins will certainly be a cakewalk. Darnold passes for 350 yards and four touchdowns, and the Trojans win big.

This game would be a lot more entertaining if Josh Rosen could play. He and Sam Darnold are two of the young guns already taking the Pac-12 by storm — really, all of college football — and it’s a shame fans won’t get to witness them duel. Nevertheless, Darnold is going to sling the rock for at least 300 yards and three touchdowns. He’ll find JuJu Smith-Schuster for two of those touchdowns, and the Trojans stave off a late comeback attempt by UCLA to take the win.

Trojans signal-caller Sam Darnold should face a little resistance against a Bruins defense that is No. 26 in the country in passing yards allowed at 195.8 yards per game. Look for a balanced offensive attack, though, which means Ronald Jones II will be able to move the chains along with Darnold to keep drives alive. Bruins quarterback Mike Fafaul will find some success through the air, but Clancy Pendergast’s defense will provide a ferocious second-half pass rush that will be too much for the Bruins’ offense to handle.

The Battle of Los Angeles takes place an hour away in Pasadena, and that’s only if traffic is light. I have little else to say about this game beyond that. USC is peaking and coming off a major upset against Washington; UCLA snapped a four-game losing streak last week. The Trojans win.
