5-Star OLB VanDarius Cowan Reaffirms Alabama Commitment

Five-star outside linebacker VanDarius Cowan completely shut down his recruitment on Monday, reaffirming his commitment to the Alabama Crimson Tide.

On Sunday, we finally got our answer as to where 5-star running back Najee Harris would play football. And the nation’s No. 1 overall player chose to call Tuscaloosa home.

Fewer than 24 hours later, another 5-star prospect reassured Alabama fans of his pledge. VanDarius Cowan reaffirmed his commitment to the Crimson Tide on Monday, officially ending any recruitment of the nation’s No. 3 outside linebacker.

Cowan, who’s from Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, is a former Florida State commit but flipped to Alabama this past spring. He’s quite active on social media, and there was some buzz that Cowan could be looking to flip his commitment once again based on his social media activity. However, he released a statement and made it quite clear he intends to roll with the Tide.

“I know I’ve been having a little too much fun with the recruiting process lately. On that note, I’m completely shutting down my recruitment. I won’t be taking any official visits or entertaining any other schools. I believe Alabama is the place that’ll best help me grow as a football player and as a man. So, at this time, I’m going to focus on my family, and the University of Alabama is [a] part of my family. Roll Tide.”

Alabama still sits at No. 1 in the 2017 recruiting class rankings with 26 total commits. Five of them are rated as 5-star players.
