Western Michigan vs. Ohio Prediction Roundtable – What’s Going To Happen

Western Michigan vs. Ohio prediction roundtable with the Campus Insiders staff. Breaking down what will happen in the MAC Championship Game between the Broncos and Bobcats.

Jeff Bartl

It would be hard to believe that P.J. Fleck coaches his last game for Western Michigan at Ford Field in Detroit. The 36-year-old has resurrected the Broncos’ program and has built a bond with his Row the Boat mantra. But bigger schools are going to be calling immediately after this game, and Fleck is going to have to make a decision about his future. Even if he does leave for another job, you’d have to believe Western Michigan allows him to coach the Cotton Bowl.

And that’s exactly where the Broncos will be heading after claiming the MAC championship. Ohio simply doesn’t stand a chance against Zach Terrell (the nation’s leader in completion percentage) and Corey Davis (the FBS’s all-time leader in career receiving yards).

I’m not really sure how you pick against Western Michigan here. For Ohio to have any chance of winning, the Bobcats will have to hold Zach Terrell and Corey Davis in check, because there is no way in the world they can withstand a shootout. The Broncos win big, and there are tears aplenty as P.J. Fleck and his team celebrate in the confetti at Ford Field.

Row the boat. Western Michigan gets the win and improves to 13-0 on the season, further cementing P.J. Fleck as the hottest coaching commodity now that Tom Herman is spoken for. The Broncos rank No. 14 in total offense and No. 32 in total defense. For comparison, Ohio is far down the offensive list at No. 72. The Bobcats are statistically better on the defensive side of the ball ranking one spot ahead of Western Michigan at No. 31. Still, this one won’t be much of a game.

Remember when Marshall first came into the Mid-American Conference and started destroying everyone with Chad Pennington and Randy Moss and a bunch of other people? That was fun. The 1990s were good times.

Western Michigan destroys Ohio.
