5-Star DE Xavier Thomas Commits To Clemson Tigers

Five-star defensive end Xavier Thomas committed to Clemson on Saturday morning, giving the Tigers seven total commits in the 2018 recruiting class.

Well, it seems as though he couldn’t wait any longer. Five-star prospect Xavier Thomas committed to Clemson on Saturday morning despite previously setting a commitment timeline for December.

Thomas, the No. 1 overall player and No. 1 defensive end in the CI 25 player rankings for the 2018 cycle, chose Dabo Swinney’s Tigers over the South Carolina Gamecocks.

Thomas, a native of South Carolina, transferred to the IMG Academy following his junior season and made it clear he intended to spend his collegiate football career in his home state.

The 6-foot-3, 263-pound defensive end released a statement regarding his decision to commit to Clemson.

“If you haven’t seen my dad’s Twitter, go check it out: @ETitusThomas. Thanks, dad, I really wish you were here with us. Today, my recruitment journey has come to an end. After long talks with my parents and family, the December commitment date is no longer. I’m currently here at Clemson University, surrounded by our wonderful family and our new extended family — [the] Clemson Tigers football staff, players, and fans. After my long prayers and in-depth talks with you, dad, about this one moment truly means to my life, I’m excited and proud to say I’m 100 percent all in!

To the [South Carolina] staff and fans, thank you! They were all so good to me, and I will always be grateful for all the love they have shown me and the family, and I wish them the best. A historic adventure begins in my life, and I am focused on achieving nothing less than greatness. And, dad, nothing means more to me than to know that you will be here to share in it all with me. I love you. From a Wilson Tiger to a Clemson Tiger … Thomas and Tiger pride! Also, to fans or anyone else, if you don’t have anything positive to say then please keep it to yourself.”

With Thomas on board, Clemson now holds commitments from the top two players in the country, as the Tigers already held a pledge from 5-star quarterback Trevor Lawrence.

Clemson now has seven total commits in the cycle and has moved up to No. 5 in the 2018 recruiting class rankings.
