4-Star QB Zadock Dinkelmann Decommits From LSU Tigers

Four-star quarterback Zadock Dinkelmann decommitted from LSU on Tuesday, leaving the Tigers with three commits in the 2018 recruiting class.

While Ed Orgeron is looking to cap off his first recruiting class as head coach at LSU, it’s the Tigers 2018 recruiting class that took a hit on Tuesday night.

Four-star prospect Zadock Dinkelmann, the No. 11 quarterback and No. 99 overall player in the cycle, decommitted from LSU. The Tigers are now left with only three commits in their 2018 class, and all are 4-star players: cornerback Kelvin Joseph, safety Nadab Joseph and athlete Caden Sterns.

Dinkelmann, who’s from Somerset, Texas, released a statement explaining his decision to back off his pledge to Orgeron’s staff.

“After talking with my family, I have decided that it is best for me to decommit from LSU and open up my recruiting options. I would like to thank the LSU staff for all the love over the years.”

While such a development is never welcome, there is plenty of time for the Tigers to either get Dinkelmann back into the class or find another quarterback to take his place. Also padding the loss is the fact that LSU has two 4-star quarterbacks, Lowell Narcisse and Myles Brennan, headed to Baton Rouge this upcoming fall as part of their 2017 haul.

At 6-foot-4, 213 pounds Dinkelmann has average arm strength but can throw with touch and precision. Regarding intangibles, seldom does he overreact to pressure off the edge. As he learns when and how to climb the pocket, he’ll show off an ability to put the ball where only his receivers can get it. He’s not an elite athlete, as he’s definitely a pocket passer. However, he does possess an ability to extend plays with his legs.

Keep an eye on Tom Herman and the Texas Longhorns as Dinkelmann’s recruitment continues.
