5-Star RB Zamir White Names Top Two Schools, Reaffirms Commitment Date

Five-star running back Zamir White has two schools at the top of his recruitment, and he reaffirmed the date for when he’ll announce his college commitment.

The recruitment for Zamir White, the No. 1 running back and No. 4 overall player in the CI 25 recruiting rankings, is beginning to take on a more defined shape.

The 5-star prospect now has two teams on top: Clemson and Georgia. Both programs would love to add a player of White’s caliber.

While he certainly could draw things out, making each program toss tireless pitch after tireless pitch, he plans to end his recruitment early in order to dedicate himself to his team at Scotland High School in Laurinburg, North Carolina.

“I think it will be good to get the decision out of the way, and basically focus on my senior season,” White said.

His mother is favoring Alabama and Georgia right now, which is great news for the Bulldogs. They’ll be losing Nick Chubb and Sony Michel after the 2017 season, so Kirby Smart’s team will be in need of a go-to tailback to add to the depth chart. White spent the past weekend in Athens, and that’s the exact message the Georgia head coach pitched.

“[Smart] talks about playing time a lot. He says I would play early. He talks a lot about Keith Marshall and Todd Gurley and how they were from North Carolina.”

The bad news for UGA is White remains a fan of Dabo Swinney and Clemson co-offensive coordinator Tony Elliott. He also consistently texts with 5-star quarterback Trevor Lawrence and 5-star defensive end Xavier Thomas. The former has been committed to the Tigers since December and the latter has Clemson in his top two.

Neither program has a favorable depth chart, though. The Tigers are adding Travis Etienne from the 2017 class to C.J. Fuller, Adam Choice and Tavien Feaster. The Bulldogs signed D’Andre Swift in the 2017 cycle and will turn to him and Elijah Holyfield once Chubb and Michel finish their senior seasons.

“Family and playing time are the main [factors],” White said. “I want to go somewhere that feels like a family and somewhere I can play early.”

His mother’s liking for Georgia may ultimately pay off for the Bulldogs when White announces his decision on his mother’s birthday, June 27.
