It was a rough day in the Big 12, as the conference’s remaining unbeaten teams—Baylor and West Virginia—fell on the road.
The Bears dropped a contest to Texas in Austin, while the Mountaineers fell to Oklahoma State in Stillwater. It’s safe to say that the league’s College Football Playoff chances are on life support.
Meanwhile, with its win at Utah, Washington proved that it is indeed one of the best teams in the country and certainly is primed to be in the mix for a high ranking when the selection committee releases the first edition of this year’s College Football Playoff rankings on Tuesday evening.

8. Wisconsin (6-2) – Dare Ogunbowale scored on an 11-yard run in overtime, and the Badgers held on to beat Nebraska 23-17 to hand the Cornhuskers their first loss of the season.
7. Ohio State (7-1) – Curtis Samuel ran for a three-yard touchdown with 9:43 left to help the Buckeyes claim a 24-20 victory over visiting Northwestern.
6. Louisville (7-1) – Lamar Jackson connected with Jaylen Smith on a 29-yard touchdown pass with 13 seconds remaining, as the Cardinals survived an upset scare against Virginia by pulling out a 32-25 win.
5. Texas A&M (7-1) – Christian Kirk returned two punts for touchdowns and added a third score on a reception to help the Aggies rout New Mexico State 52-10.
4. Washington (8-0) – Dante Pettis returned a punt 58 yards for a touchdown with 3:25 left to help the Huskies hold off Utah and remain undefeated.
3. Clemson (8-0) – The Tigers won in Tallahassee for the first time since 2006 behind Deshaun Watson’s 430 yards of total offense.
2. Michigan (8-0) – Amara Darboh caught eight passes for a career-high 165 yards, and De’Veon Smith ran for two touchdowns to help the Wolverines earn a 32-23 win over rival Michigan State.
1. Alabama (8-0) – Nick Saban’s squad enjoyed an off week, so it will have had extra time to prepare for next week’s game against LSU, which also enjoyed a bye in Week 9.
