Why You Need To Care

Oklahoma State is winning, even if it failed to pitch a complete game against either Central Michigan or Central Arkansas. The Cowboys will need to use this week’s matchup with UTSA to begin operating with more efficiency, especially on offense, because a Week 4 trip to Texas looms large. The Roadrunners came back to Earth following a valiant opening day effort versus Arizona, fading in the fourth quarter against Kansas State, 30-3.

Why UTSA Will Win

The Roadrunners want to recapture the form it had in Week 1, when QB Blake Bogenschutz pegged Arizona for 332 yards and two touchdown passes. UTSA showed an offensive spark that could challenge an Oklahoma State squad that’s been stumbling on third downs and in the red zone.

Why Oklahoma State Will Win

UTSA got exposed by the Kansas State defense a week ago. The Cowboys are capable of doing the same thing in Week 3. The Cowboys have yielded just a pair of touchdowns in two games, and the defensive line, led by Jimmy Bean and Emmanuel Ogbah, is going to be in Bogenschutz’s face all afternoon.

Player Who Matters

Cowboy QB Mason Rudolph is beginning to maximize the tools at his disposal. Oklahoma State is littered with playmakers on the outside, like David Glidden, Marcell Ateman and Brandon Sheperd. OSU receivers are averaging 14.5 yards per reception, and their explosiveness will create headaches for a middling UTSA defensive backfield.

What’s Going To Happen?

The real UTSA emerged in Manhattan, a team incapable of keeping pace with a Big 12 squad for 60 minutes. Like Kansas State, Oklahoma State will silence the Roadrunner offense, while Rudolph continues to improve as the offensive conductor. PK Ben Grogan will again be too busy, but OSU will survive without much of a second-half challenge.
