The struggles continued for Ole Miss as it was beat 40-29 by Auburn. Quarterback Chad Kelly was busy, throwing the ball 59 times for 465 yards and three touchdowns but threw a killer interception in the fourth quarter.

Georgia Southern was dominated in a 34-10 loss to Appalachian State, dropping the Eagles to 4-4 on the season. The rushing attack – the strength of the team – was shut down, rushing for just 65 yards in the loss.

What To Know About Ole Miss

Stop me if you have heard this before: Ole Miss played well in the first half, held the lead at halftime, and then collapsed down the stretch. Yes, it happened once again, this time against Auburn. Holding a 22-20 lead going into the second half, the Rebels could only muster seven more points.

The defense gave up yards on both the ground and through the air, as Auburn put up 554 yards of total offense. Against Georgia Southern, the focus will be on the run as the Eagles like to run the ball almost 90% of the time.

What to Know About Georgia Southern

Run the ball, run it again, and then – you got it – the Eagles will run it one more time. It is no secret what they like to do on the ground, although the attack is not as potent as in the past. Quarterback Seth Shuman has started the last two games, and will probably get the start in Oxford.

Georgia Southern’s defense will try to shut down Kelly, as the Rebels have become extremely one-dimensional in the last few games. The Eagles give up 214.4 yards per game through the air, good for No. 46 in the nation.

Advantages

Offense: Ole Miss. Kelly can light it up when on.

Defense: Tie. The “Landsharks” haven’t been as scary this season on third down, allowing offenses to convert 39.5% of the time.

Special Teams: Georgia Southern. Kicker Younghoe Koo is a perfect 14-for-14 on FG attempts, including a long of 53 yards.

Coaching: Ole Miss. It has been a rough season for Hugh Freeze.

Intangibles: Georgia Southern. They have knocked off an SEC opponent before. They are not intimidated.

Ole Miss vs. Georgia Southern Prediction

Fact: Ole Miss has never trailed this season at halftime. Another fact: Ole Miss is 3-5. That means that teams have been making great adjustments at halftime and figuring the Rebels out. If Georgia Southern can keep it close for 30 minutes, they might be able to score an upset, but the Eagles can’t fall too far behind as they rely on the running game and can’t score points in a hurry. Ole Miss is too talented to lose this one, and will finally be able to yell “Hotty Toddy” after a game for the first time in over a month.
