Oregon State football schedule predictions and early game-by-game preview for 2016. Projecting how the Beavers will do this year.
It was a rough first season for Gary Andersen at Oregon State, but can the schedule work out to make it a better Year Two? Check out the preseason predictions for every game.
Gary Andersen gets back into the Big Ten world with a trip to Minnesota. The Gopher offense will have a hard time getting rolling against the solid Beaver defense, but it’ll still come up with the key late drive it needs.
Preseason Prediction: Minnesota 27, Oregon State 23
This is the scrimmage the team could use to tune up a bit more after getting a week off. It’ll need it to get ready for the showdown that’s coming next. Consider it a major plus if the Bengals get on the board.
Preseason Prediction: Oregon State 45, Idaho State 0
Could this the be the Broncos’ biggest barrier to 12-0? Probably, and the Beaver defense will be jacked up to come up with something terrific. The Boise State offense balance will be too much and too balanced throughout – it’ll be a statement game on the road the program needs to have.
Preseason Prediction: Boise State 24, Oregon State 20
Call this a bowl elimination game for the loser. The Beaver offense will come up with several big pass plays, but the Colorado defense will generate three big turnovers at home to hang on. Oregon State will be kicking itself after all the missed opportunities.
Preseason Prediction: Colorado 20, Oregon State 17
It’ll be a desperation game for both teams, with Cal coming in on a rough losing streak and Oregon State losing two in a row. Neither side will be able to pull away, but Cal will come up with several short-to-midrange plays to control the game in the second half.
Preseason Prediction: California 30, Oregon State 24
The Oregon State defensive front will have better stats than talent for the most part this year, but this will be the game when line play is a problem. That’ll be the case for the offense, too, that won’t be able to generate much of a push. Fortunately, this is when the passing game kicks it in at home in a furious comeback to steal the late win.
Preseason Prediction: Oregon State 23, Utah 20
The Husky defense will dominate. The Beavers won’t have an answer for the aggressive Washington line that’ll camp out in the backfield – their offense won’t be able to go in a rough game that’ll be over fast.
Preseason Prediction: Washington 30, Oregon State 13
Can Oregon State’s secondary handle the Wazzu passing game? Yup. The defense that struggled against Cal’s midrange passing game earlier in the year will bend but not break time and again. Meanwhile, the offense will control the clock.
Preseason Prediction: Oregon State 34, Washington State 24
Coming off a loss to Arizona, Stanford will be extra ramped up before having to go to Oregon. The Cardinal won’t mess around in the first half, but this will turn out to be more of a grind as the game goes on. Oregon State won’t go away.
Preseason Prediction: Stanford 26, Oregon State 17
The Bruins will be on too much of a run. Will they be looking ahead to the showdown against USC? A little bit, but they’ll be playing well enough to overcome a rocky start with a terrific third quarter to pull away.
Preseason Prediction: UCLA 34, Oregon State 21
In the home finale, Oregon State will rise up and rock with everything working. The defense will stone the Wildcats cold with a brilliant performance, while the offense will control the game from the start. Everyone will want to see the Arizona offense, but it’ll be the Beavers’ that shows up.
Preseason Prediction: Oregon State 37, Arizona 14
The Oregon State offense won last year in the crazy shootout loss. It’s not going to happen this time around, as Oregon will get up big early – with the Pac-12 North title on the line – and then coast. The final score will be closer than the actual game.
Preseason Prediction: Oregon 41, Oregon State 27
2016 Prediction: 4-8
2016 Pac-12 Prediction: 3-6
