Sept. 13 at South Carolina 38, Georgia 35 
And You Care Because … Bulldog kicker Marshall Morgan missed field goals from 26 and 28 yards out – with the latter coming with over four minutes to play with Georgia down three – and South Carolina was able to convert a 4th-and-inches – but barely – for the tight Gamecock win. Dylan Thompson threw two first quarter touchdown passes for USC, and ran for a third quarter score, but it was Brandon Wilds who took off for a 24-yard touchdown for what would turn out to be the game-winning score ant a 38-28 lead. Georgia came back, answering with a 75-yard drive and a one-yard Quayvon Hicks touchdown, and then had a big chance late after a Damian Swain interception taken deep into Gamecock territory, but an intentional grounding penalty and a few misfires forced Georgia to go for a field goal, Morgan missed, and South Carolina saved its season. 
What Else? South Carolina QB Dylan Thompson completed 21-of-30 passes for 271 yards and three scores with a pick, and Georgia QB Hutson Mason completed 16-of-22 passes for 191 yards and two touchdowns. 
– Georgia RB Todd Gurley ran 20 times for 131 yards and a score. 
– The Georgia defense had problems all game long, but Ramik Wilson made 13 tackles with 2.5 tackles for loss and Amarlo Herrera made 11 stops with a sack. 
– South Carolina RB Brandon Wilds ran 14 times for 93 yards and a score. Mike Davis ran 17 times for 66 yards.

Sept. 13 Florida 36, Kentucky 30 3OT 
And You Care Because … In the third overtime, Kentucky’s Austin MacGinnis miss a field goal attempt and Florida pounded away for the win with a one-yard Matt Jones run. MacGinnis nailed a 51-yard field goal with under four minutes to play to help forced overtime, and the two teams traded touchdowns in the first fame with Stanley Williams coming up with a brilliant reverse-field run for a 25-yard UK touchdowns, and then Florida answered, but it took a fourth down touchdown pass from Jeff Driskel to Demarcus Robinson, even though the playclock appeared to turn to zero. The two teams traded field goals in the second OT. The first half was an ugly 3-3 tie, and then came the offense with Patrick Towles finding Garrett Johnson on touchdown passes from 60 and 33 yards out, and Driskel throwing two touchdown passes including a nine-yarder to Robinson. 
What Else? Florida WR Demarcus Robinson caught 15 passes for 216 yards and two scores. Jeff Driskel completed 25-of-43 passes for 295 yards and three touchdowns with a pick. 
– Kentucky QB Patrick Towles completed 24-of-45 passes for 369 yards and three touchdowns with three picks, and Garrett Johnson caught six times with 154 yards and two touchdowns. 
– Florida RB Matt Jones ran 29 times for 156 yards and a score. 
– Florida P Kyle Christy averaged 48.7 yards per punt putting four of his six kicks inside the 20. Kentucky P Landon Foster averaged 39.8 yards per kick with five of his six going inside the 20.

Sept. 13 at Vanderbilt 34, Massachusetts 31 
And You Care Because … Vanderbilt avoided total disaster with 14 unanswered points getting a three-play drive helped by two C.J. Duncan catches, leading four-yard touchdown run from Ralph Webb with just over a minute to play for the win. UMass had a shot, marching back quickly into field goal range, but Blake Lucas missed a 22-yard field goal in the final seconds. In the comeback, the Vandy special teams got into the act with a blocked punt for a score to pull within five with under nine minutes to play, but the two-point conversion failed to force the late touchdown drive. UMass got out to a 14-0 lead on Rodney Mills touchdown catches from 13 and 53 yards away, and got two Lorenzo Woodley touchdown runs. 
What Else? UMass came really, really close to getting two program-changing wins, barely losing to Colorado last week and losing a heartbreaker to Vandy this week. Mark Whipple is doing a brilliant job of making the team more than just competitive. 
– Vanderbilt gave ANOTHER quarterback a shot. Wade Freebeck completed one of two passes for three yards with a pick. He was the fourth quarterback the team tried this year. 
– Vanderbilt QB Patton Robinette completed 15-of-21 passes for 147 yards and a score, and ran six times for 35 yards and a touchdown. 
– UMass outgained Vanderbilt 346 yards to 310.

Sept. 13 Arkansas 49, at Texas Tech 28 
And You Care Because … The power beat the flash as Arkansas bludgeoned the Ted Raiders for 438 rushing yards with Jonathan Williams running for four touchdowns from six, 13, 12, and seven yards and Alex Collins running for scores from 15 and 84 yards out. With the score tied at 21 late in the first half, Williams ran for a 12-yard score to lead a Hog 28-7 scoring run to close things out. Texas Tech’s Davis Webb threw three touchdown passes, but he was picked off twice and the offense sputtered for most of the second half. 
What Else? The Arkansas power game worked, to put it mildly. Alex Collins ran 27 times for 212 yards and two touchdowns, and Jonathan Williams ran 22 times for 145 yards and four scores. The team combined to average 6.4 yards per try with seven scores. 
– Texas Tech QB Davis Webb completed 27-of-45 passes for 252 yards and three touchdowns with two picks. 
– Texas Tech never seemed to have the ball. Arkansas had the ball for 40:39 compared to 19:21. 
– Arkansas LB Brooks Ellis made eight tackles with four broken up passes and a forced fumble.

Sept. 13 at Oklahoma 34, Tennessee 10 
And You Care Because … Oklahoma jumped out to a 13-0 lead helped by a 23-yard touchdown pass from Trevor Knight to Keith Ford, and two Michael Hunnicutt field goals, and then pulled away with an 11-yard Ford run and a five-yard dash from Knight. Tennessee made it interesting in the second quarter on a 40-yard Josh Smith touchdown catch, but the tide turned on an apparent fumble that was reversed and eventually converted into Ford’s scoring dash. With Tennessee threatening, Julian Wilson put a cap on the game for OU with a 100-yard pick six. 
What Else? Oklahoma QB Trevor Knight was fantastic, completing 20-of-33 passes for 308 yards and a score with a pick, and ran for 17 yards and a touchdown. 
– Tennessee QB Justin Worley completed 21-of-44 passes for 201 yards and a score with two picks. 
– Oklahoma RB Keith Ford ran 15 times for 56 yards and a score, and Samaje Perine ran nine times for 67 yards. 
– Tennessee RB Jalen Hurd ran 14 times for 97 yards.

Sept. 13 at Missouri 38, UCF 10 
And You Care Because … Maty Mauk threw two touchdown passes to both Jimmie Hunt and Bud Sasser as Missouri rolled up a blowout win after a rough start. UCF took a 10-7 lead on a two-yard William Stanback touchdown catch, but Mizzou scored 31 unanswered points with Mauk finding Sasser from 22 and 21 yards out and Duron Singleton finishing things off with a fumble return for a score in the final seconds. 
What Else? Maty Mauk continues to have issues with his accuracy, completing 14-of-24 passes, but he made them count with 144 yards and four scores with a pick. 
– Missouri was able to run without much of a problem with Marcus Murphy taking off for 94 yards on 14 carries and the team averaging over five yards per pop. 
– Turnovers killed UCF. The late one didn’t matter, but four on the day hurt any chances of keeping the early lead. Justin Holman threw for 209 yards with a touchdown and two picks. 
– UCF LB Terrance Plummer led all defenders with 12 tackles and a tackle for loss, but Mizzou DE Shane Ray was the star making seven tackles with two sacks, a forced fumble and four tackles for loss.

Sept. 13 at Texas A&M 38, Rice 10 
And You Care Because … It wasn’t an explosion, but Texas A&M went through the motions and won easily. Kenny Hill threw four touchdown passes with Josh Reynolds catching two of them from 48 and 20 yards out, and Tra Carson added a one-yard score. Rice stayed in the game in the first half on a 35-yard Mario Hull touchdown catch, but the Aggie D allowed just a field goal over the final 42 minutes. 
What Else? Texas A&M QB Kenny Hill completed 20-of-31 passes for 300 yards and four scores, and he ran five times for 38 yards. 
– Rice held on to the ball for 43:14, Texas A&M 16:46
– Rice QB Driphus Jackson completed 21-of-32 passes for 212 yards and a scores and ran 13 times for 84 yards. 
– Rice ran for 240 yards and threw for 240.

Sept. 13 at Alabama 52, Southern Miss 12 
And You Care Because … Southern Miss took an early 3-0 lead, and then it was all Alabama as Amari Cooper took a pass 22 yards for a score and Blake Sims ran for a four-yard touchdown. Kenyan Drake came up with two one-yard touchdown runs before adding a 29-yarder in the fourth.
What Else? Alabama ran for 333 yards and averaged 6.8 yards per carry. Kenyan Drake ran nine times for 59 yards and three scores, and Derrick Henry added 73 yards on 11 carries. 
– Alabama WR Amari Cooper caught eight passes for 135 yards and a score, and Blake Sims completed 12-of-17 passes for 168 yards and two touchdowns and ran for 46 yards and a touchdown. 
– Southern Miss QB Nick Mullens completed 19-of-35 passes for 207 yards. 
– Third down conversions: Alabama 7-of-11 – Southern Miss 3-of-13

Sept. 13 Mississippi State 35, at South Alabama 3 
And You Care Because … Mississippi State cranked up the offense with 28 first half points and 514 yards on the way to an easy win. Dak Prescott ran for a score from 40 yards out and caught a 24-yard touchdown pass from Jameon Lewis on a trick play, and Josh Robinson ran for touchdowns from two and 15 yards away. South Alabama turned it over four times and only managed a 26-yard Aleem Sunanon field goal in the second quarter. 
What Else? Mississippi State QB Dak Prescott completed 13-of-21 passes for 201 yards and a score, ran 14 times for 139 yards and a touchdown, and caught one pass for a 24-yard score. 
– South Alabama QB Brandon Bridge completed 21-of-39 passes for 203 yards with a pick. 
– It was hardly a clean game or MSU with eight penalties and two lost fumbles, but the O outgained USA 514 yards to 345. 
– Mississippi State RB Josh Robinson ran 12 times for 77 yards and two scores. The Bulldogs averaged 6.4 yards per carry.

Sept. 13 at LSU 31, ULM 0 
And You Care Because … LSU took a little while to get going, but it didn’t have any problems as Darrel Williams ran for two touchdowns and Leonard Fournette took off for a 24-yard score. ULM never threatened, finishing with just 93 yards of offense. 
What Else? LSU’s running game only ran for 4.2 yards per carry, but Leonard Fournette ran ten times for 52 yards and a score and Kenny Hilliard ran for 50 yards and a touchdown. 
– ULM finished with 16 rushing yards on 18 carries with no run longer than six yards. 
– LSU QB Anthony Jennings completed 11-of-18 passes for 139 yards and a pick, and ran seven times for 20 yards.
– ULM QB Pete Thomas completed 16-of-30 passes for 77 yards.
