August 23, 2016Three-star quarterback Austin Burton flipped his commitment to UCLA from Boston College on Monday.
Austin Burton, the No. 9 quarterback in the state of Florida and No. 75 quarterback in the nation, has had a change of heart and apparently prefers the California sun to the harsh winters in the northeast.
The 3-star prospect, who’s originally from Newton Center, Massachusetts, flipped his commitment from Boston College to UCLA on Monday after being pledged to the Eagles for nearly two months.
Burton released a statement on Twitter regarding his decision.
“I would like to thank Boston College and the coaches for recruiting me, but after serious re-evaluation and a lot of prayer, I have decided to pursue my college career at UCLA.”
At 6-foot-3, 203 lbs Burton throws well moving to his right and can create with his legs when he needs to do so. He’s raw as a pocket passer, but with Josh Rosen having one more year of eligibility after the 2016 season, there’s plenty of time for Marques Tuiasosopo, UCLA’s passing game coordinator, to work with him.
Burton is the Bruins’ eighth commit of the 2017 cycle and their fifth this month. Within the past three weeks, Jim Mora’s staff has landed verbal commitments from 4-star tight end Jimmy Jaggers, 3-star cornerback Jaylan Shaw, 3-star offensive tackle Jaxson Kirkland and 3-star cornerback Quentin Lake, the son of former Bruin and current Pittsburgh Steelers assistant coach Carnell Lake.
UCLA sits at No. 46 in the 2017 recruiting class rankings.
