The Panthers have more momentum and more at stake, needing to win two of the final four games to become bowl eligible. Led by an athletic front seven, they’ve also got the better defense, ranking second in the league at 22 points per game allowed.
FIU is a different team on the road, losing its last four outside of Miami. Rookie RB Trey Rodriguez is running very well for the Owls, and QB Jaquez Johnson ought to be crisper now that he had last week’s trip to UTEP to shake off some rust.
Florida International has seized control of the Shula Bowl the last four years, a trend that’ll continue Saturday afternoon. The lure of the postseason and the right arm of QB Alex McGough, who’s playing well in his second year, will propel the Panthers to a win.
Prediction: FIU 30, Florida Atlantic 24, Line: Florida International -3.5, o/u: 52
