Gary Patterson: TCU Football Has To ‘Prove People Right’

Gary Patterson says TCU football "has to prove people right" during the 2015 season after being ranked No. 2 in the preseason.

In the ongoing battle to earn respect, TCU head coach Gary Patterson continues to state his mind.

“Last year we had to prove people wrong, this year we have to prove people right,” said Patterson on Tuesday at the TCU media luncheon.

After being left out of the inaugural College Football Playoff last year despite an 11-1 regular season record (12-1 overall), the Horned Frogs enter the 2015 season ranked No. 2 in the preseason Amway Coaches Poll, and are one of the favorites to win the national title.

TCU, along with Big 12 co-champion Baylor, was forced to watch Ohio State run away with the title last season from home. One of the reasons stated by the CFP committee was the lack of a “true champion” that resulted in the Big 12 not having a conference title game.

In April, Patterson broke his four-month silence on the committee’s decision.

“I was told why we had a committee was we were going to take all that stuff out of it; I remember talking about the championship games and they shouldn’t have mattered,” Patterson said. “Their job was to watch all this film and pick the top four teams no matter where you played and what you did. And then, all of a sudden in the end it got down to they played a championship game and we didn’t. That’s not what we were told. We were told they would pick the four best teams.”

Patterson and the Horned Frogs will not have to worry about being left out this year if they take care of business and go undefeated. If so, the voters will be proven right.
