Jordan Cornette’s Power 12 College Basketball Rankings, Week 12

Jordan Cornette's Power 12 college basketball rankings for Week 12.

The Oklahoma Sooners tripped up this past week against Iowa State on the road, but a bounce-back win against Baylor keeps them on top of the Power 12.

UNC remains in the two-spot, but after the Tar Heels things have been shaken up quite a bit.

Iowa is up to No. 3 from No. 8, West Virginia slid a spot to No. 4, and Xavier moved into the top five.

Providence, Michigan State and Iowa State jumped into the rankings, while SMU, Clemson and Miami fell out.

Week 12 Power 12 College Basketball Rankings

    1) Oklahoma (Last Week, 1)

Buddy Hield continues to have a magical year. Impressive double-figure road win at Baylor. An elite offense, and finally a defense to support it.

    2) UNC (2)

Six guys averaging double figures for the Tar Heels. Too many weapons for most teams to compete with.

    3) Iowa (8)

Regular-season sweep of Purdue and Michigan State. Fran McCaffery is my front runner for National Coach of the Year.

    4) West Virginia (3)

The Mountaineers are intimidating. Defensive pressure and brutes on the backboard. More than 24 ppg off turnovers, and nearly 19 ppg off second-chance opportunities.

    5) Xavier (7)

James Farr is playing the best basketball of his career. One of the nation’s most underrated players continues to do work. Farr had 24 points and 15 rebounds in the win over Seton Hall. His improvement has been one of the key factors to the Muskies’ wild success this year.

    6) Kansas (4)

Wayne Selden returned to form in the Texas win. He must remain consistent for the Jayhawks to remain in the title hunt.

    7) Texas A&M (11)

The pair of talented 6’7″ guards, Jalen Jones and Danuel House, set the tone for this athletic and physical bunch. The SEC is the Aggies’ for the taking.

    8) Providence (NR)

Kris Dunn and Ben Bentil are as tough a duo as any in the nation.

    9) Michigan State (NR)

Big-time home win vs. the Terps. The team is beginning to find its rhythm once again with Denzel Valentine fully back in the fold.

    10) Villanova (6)

When these guys get hot they can beat anyone in the nation.

    11) Maryland (9)

Incredibly talented, still very much in the hunt. They must get better on the glass — the Terps gave up 17 offensive rebounds in consecutive games.

    12) Iowa State (NR)

Not a lot of depth but the stars carry the load. Georges Niang and Jameel McKay are a versatile front line that continues to dominate its opponent night in and night out.
