Leonard Fournette Wants A Championship For Louisiana’s Sake

Leonard Fournette is the LSU Tigers' pride and joy and a Heisman Trophy frontrunner, but he's also an advocate for winning a national championship for the entire state of Louisiana.

Leonard Fournette had big plans for himself when he chose to attend Louisiana State University. He made that evident when he struck a Heisman pose after scoring his first touchdown of his college career against Sam Houston State last season.

Fournette burned the Bearkats for 92 rushing yards on 13 carries that day, and the numbers have only gotten bigger for LSU’s star running back. His aspirations haven’t changed, but they have taken a more team-friendly shape. Well, honestly, the shape they’ve taken is the shape of the “Pelican State.”

Fournette’s main goal is not the Heisman Trophy that he’s favored to take home at the end of the season. No, his eyes are on a national championship for LSU.

He wants to hoist up the College Football Playoff trophy for his teammates. He wants it for the school and the program. But, more importantly, Fournette wants it for Louisiana in general.

“It’s not just for me,” Fournette said. “It’s for Louisiana period. LSU hasn’t seen a championship in a minute.”

As long as LSU has Fournette in its backfield, the Tigers have to like their chances.
