Kickoff: 7:00 p.m. ET
Venue: Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium, Louisville, KY

The Cardinals check in at No. 19 in the preseason AP Top 25 poll, as head coach Bobby Petrino brings back electric quarterback Lamar Jackson and an experienced defense. The squad will be tested early in the season, though, as Clemson and Florida State are among the team’s first five opponents.
Meanwhile, the 49ers enter their second season in the FBS as a member of Conference USA and are looking to snap a 10-game losing streak. But Brad Lambert, who has been the head coach since 2013, brings back a boatload of starters.
Here’s a look at some of the statistics as we head into the season opener.

Kevin Olsen vs. Louisville front seven
The 49ers have an intriguing quarterback in the form of JUCO signal-caller Kevin Olsen, who redshirted in 2013 at Miami (FL). That is good news considering the 49ers used three signal-callers in ’15, and the results were poor. However, the Cardinals’ defense will be one of the best in the ACC. And Olsen will have to always know the whereabouts of linebacker Devonte Fields, whose 10.5 sacks ranked fourth in the ACC.
Offense: Louisville. Jackson’s dual-threat abilities will wreak havoc on the 49ers’ defense.
Defense: Louisville. The Cards can rush the passer, stop the run and keep big plays to a minimum.
Coaching: Louisville. Petrino is an offensive wizard who has won at every stop.
Intangibles: Louisville. Even if the Cards didn’t have home-field advantage, this matchup is one-sided.
The Cardinals won six of their final seven games last season, including a Music City Bowl contest against Texas A&M. Most of the starters are back from that squad, which means the 49ers will be in for a long night. Louisville’s Jackson accounted for 23 touchdowns and averaged 206 yards on the ground in the team’s final two games, so he is expected to have a breakout campaign as he enters his first full season as the starting quarterback. And while the 49ers have an intriguing quarterback in the form of JUCO signal-caller Kevin Olsen, who redshirted in 2013 at Miami (FL), the Cards have too much firepower on both sides of the ball to allow any chance of an upset to occur.
Final Score Prediction For Charlotte vs. Louisville: Louisville 49, Charlotte 13
