SEC football rankings entering Week 2 of the 2016 season. Alabama and Georgia? Good. Most of the rest? Not so good.

Alabama’s dismantling of USC seemed a bit ho-hum after much of the SEC laid an egg during one of the greatest opening weekends in college football history. Ole Miss couldn’t cap the weekend with a win after blowing a big lead against Florida State.

Here’s a look at the SEC football rankings for Week 2. The number in parentheses denotes where each team stands in Campus Insiders’ 1-128 rankings.

    Week 2 SEC Football Rankings

    14. Kentucky (73)

Everything seemed fine for roughly 29 1/2 minutes. Then Southern Mississippi rattled off 34 unanswered points to beat the Wildcats 44-35. Ouch.

    13. Vanderbilt (71)

Had a seven-point lead late, then blew it in a 13-10 loss to South Carolina.

    12. Missouri (64)

The 26-11 loss to West Virginia wasn’t as competitive as the score.

    11. South Carolina (59)

Will Muschamp’s debut wasn’t very pretty, but Elliott Fry’s 55-yard field goal with 35 seconds remaining helped him come away a winner against Vanderbilt.

    10. Mississippi State (56)

The Bulldogs were 28 ½-point favorites over South Alabama, but it came down to a last-second field goal attempt for them to win it. Westin Graves’ 28-yarder clanked off the upright, and Mississippi State suffered a 21-20 defeat.

    9. Auburn (40)

Auburn hung tough with Clemson before ultimiately falling 19-13 in the battle of the Tigers.

    8. Arkansas (28)

The Razorbacks didn’t take their first lead until less than seven minutes left, when Jeremy Sprinkle hit Austin Allen for a 4-yard touchdown that gave them a 21-20 win over Louisiana Tech.

    7. Ole Miss (25)

The Rebels looked to be cruising to victory against Florida State before faltering in the second half.

    6. Florida (21)

The Gators couldn’t put away UMass until scoring 14 fourth-quarter points in a 24-7 win.

    5. LSU (20)

Not the way Les Miles wanted to start the year off, as the Tigers fell 16-14 to Wisconsin at Lambeau Field. After starting the season at No. 2, LSU finds itself down three spots at No. 5 in the SEC football rankings.

    4. Texas A&M (17)

The Aggies blew a big fourth-quarter lead over UCLA before Trevor Knight rescued them in overtime of a 31-24 win.

    3. Tennessee (12)

Overrated? The Volunteers were completely outplayed and barely came away with 20-13 overtime win over Appalachian State.

    2. Georgia (9)

Oh, hey there, Nick Chubb. He proved he’s healthy with 222 yards and two touchdowns in a 33-24 win over North Carolina.

    1. Alabama (1)

Few expected the Crimson Tide to lose to USC. But to beat the Trojans 52-6? Yikes. Alabama is firmly planted at No. 1 in the SEC football rankings.
