Here’s The Deal: It’s the 13th annual Shula Bowl, the budding rivalry between Florida Atlantic and Florida International. For a change, both schools enter the meeting with a head of steam and a perfect mark in league play. On the same day that the Owls were rallying to defeat UTSA, the Panthers were having their way with UAB in Birmingham. 
Why Florida Atlantic Might Win: The Owl offense has shown what it can do now that Nebraska and Alabama are no longer on the schedule. In Florida Atlantic’s last two wins, it’s scored 91 points, including 41 versus an underrated UTSA defense. QB Jaquez Johnson has been the sparkplug, accounting for 10 touchdowns with no interceptions. 
Why Florida International Might Win: Johnson will be tested by a Panther D that ranks 23rd nationally overall and No. 1 in Conference USA takeaways and sacks. The aggressive bunch is being led by CB Richard Leonard’s three picks, and 10 combined sacks from ends Denzell Perine and Mike Wakefield. 
Who To Watch Out For: Can FIU produce points if the defense is creating short-field opportunities? Young QB Alex McGough is limiting turnovers, but he’s only completing 45% of his throws. And Owl corners Cre’von LeBlanc and D’Joun Smith will stick to his top receivers, TE Jonnu Smith and WR Glenn Coleman. 
What’s Going To Happen: Close. Intense. And competitive for all four quarters. There’s not much separating the Owls and the Panthers, including the distance between the campuses. The difference will be Florida Atlantic’s experience under center, with Johnson leading his team to another close win.
