Projected top 25 College Football Playoff rankings prior to the second release from the CFP committee for the 2016 season.
The second batch of College Football Playoff rankings will be revealed on Tuesday night, and fans across the country will see a different-looking top 25 than what they saw in the first release, especially following losses by CFP contenders Texas A&M and Florida.
The Aggies came out flat on Saturday in their SEC West matchup against Mississippi State in Starkville, falling behind 14-0, losing quarterback Trevor Knight to injury and never being able to fully recover. Meanwhile, the Gators once again looked anemic and bland on offense, as they fell on the road to Arkansas.
The biggest beneficiaries of those two losses have to be Washington, Ohio State and Louisville, three teams that checked in behind the Aggies last week. Of course, these rankings will change week to week, and the only ones that really matter are those that are released on the first Sunday in December. But the losses by the Aggies and Gators will at least calm the fan bases in Seattle, Columbus and Louisville, respectively.
Keep in mind that the College Football Playoff selection committee uses a variety of factors when comprising its top 25, especially the eye test. CFP commissioner Kirby Hocutt recently told Campus Insiders that if there’s a consensus that one conference has two of the nation’s best teams, the committee will rank them appropriately.
Looking ahead to Tuesday’s release, here is a projection of how the committee will rank the top 25 teams in the country.
