Purdue Hires Jeff Brohm As New Head Coach

Purdue has hired Jeff Brohm as its next head coach. The Western Kentucky program-builder is bringing his high-powered offense to West Lafayette.

Purdue has found a new head football coach to turn around its struggling program. Western Kentucky’s Jeff Brohm has accepted an offer to be the next program-builder in West Lafayette.

Brohm reportedly met with his Hilltoppers squad and informed his players of the decision on Monday morning. His contract with the Boilermakers is reportedly worth $20 million over the course of six years.

“We were fortunate to meet with many talented coaches from around the country during our search, and Jeff’s name was one that rose to the top early in the process,” AD Mike Bobinski said. “He is a coach who already has achieved tremendous success and, at the same time, has incredible upside.

“His reputation and record of accomplishment as an innovative offensive coach and developer of quarterbacks is second to none. That pedigree, combined with his commitment to developing the complete student-athlete and doing so with integrity makes him a perfect fit for Purdue University. I am extremely excited to have Jeff as our head football coach.”

Along with winning the Conference USA championship over Louisiana Tech on Saturday, Brohm met with Purdue officials, reps from Baylor and generated interest in the Cincinnati opening over the weekend. But the Boilermakers must have made quite the impression during their discussions.

Defensive coordinator Nick Holt has been named the Hilltoppers’ interim head coach and will lead the Hilltoppers in their Boca Raton Bowl showdown with Memphis on Dec. 20.

Brohm compiled a 30-10 record in three seasons at Western Kentucky and won back-to-back C-USA titles. The most impressive aspect of his teams has been the offenses that he has fielded. The big-play unit has averaged 44 or more points per game every season, and it has been led by prolific passing games.

Brandon Doughty threw for almost 10,000 yards and 97 touchdowns during Brohm’s first two seasons, while South Florida transfer Mike White has enjoyed much success in 2016, throwing for 4,027 yards with 34 touchdowns against just six interceptions.
