Roc Thomas Makes Jacksonville State Transfer Official

Former Auburn RB Roc Thomas makes his Jacksonville State transfer official on Monday, signing a financial aid agreement with the Gamecocks.

Running back Roc Thomas is officially a member of the Jacksonville State Gamecocks, where he’ll play for his former high school coach.

Former Auburn running back Roc Thomas has officially found his new home. While it was expected that Thomas would transfer to Jacksonville State, news wasn’t confirmed until Monday when Thomas signed his financial aid agreement.

Thomas will be eligibile to play immediately for the FCS-level Gamecocks.

Rated a 5-star recruit coming out of Oxford High School (Oxford, AL) in 2014, Thomas was supposed to compete for the starting job with fellow Tigers running backs Jovon Robinson and Kerryon Johnson heading into fall practice.

Instead, Thomas, a former Mr. Football in the state of Alabama, will join forces with his former high school coach John Grass, who is now the head coach at Jacksonville State.

“Roc is a great addition for our team,” Grass said. “We lost some key players at running back and it’s really good to get him in and help shore up the depth at that position. He is a great player that is returning home. He was a 5-star running back that is an explosive player. He is familiar with our system after playing for me in high school, and I expect him to flourish in it here at JSU.”

In two seasons with Auburn, Thomas carried the ball 86 times for 475 yards and three touchdowns. He had nearly identical stats in 2014 and 2015, carrying the ball 43 times in each season and tallying 214 and 261 yards, respectively.

Thomas will have two years of eligibility with Jacksonville State.
