The Drake Bulldogs will make the trip to San Diego to take on the Toreros on Saturday in a battle between two 2-1 teams in Pioneer League play.

San Diego looks to dust itself off after a tough, 13-12 loss against an undefeated Dayton team last week. The Toreros held a 9-3 lead at halftime, but a 10-point rally in the second-half by the Flyers proved to be just enough to earn the win. WR Brian Riley was the bright spot for San Diego, hauling in four receptions for 68 yards, including a 42-yard touchdown catch. The Toreros hope their home field advantage will give them an edge on Saturday, as San Diego has won its last 20 Pioneer Football League home games.

The Drake Bulldogs stand at even 3-3 on the season and hope to build off their 34-7 drubbing of Valparaiso last week. The Bulldogs’ defense was the story of this one as they held the Crusaders to just 43 yards rushing and 165 yards passing. LB John Hugunin notched his first career interception, blocked a punt, forced a fumble and recorded seven tackles to lead Drake’s defense. On the offensive side, RB Conley Wilkins punched the ball in the end zone three times for the Bulldogs and finished with 83 total yards on the day.

This is the 23rd matchup between the two teams and Saturday’s winner will hold the overall lead in the series as it is currently tied at 11 apiece. San Diego has won the last two meetings and seven of the last 10.
