All is normal in the world as long as Alabama comes out on top, and there was nothing new in Tuscaloosa this Saturday. The Crimson Tide dismantled Mississippi State, 51-3, completely shutting down any potential for another upset by Dan Mullen’s Bulldogs.
And Florida maintained its lead in the SEC East by taking down its former head coach, Will Muschamp, and his Gamecocks, 20-7.
Here’s a look at how the SEC teams rank heading into Week 12 of the season, now that the games have been decided.
Week 12 SEC Football Rankings
14. Vanderbilt (Last Week – 12)
The Commodores came up short against Missouri, 26-17. Kyle Shurmur was picked off twice, and Ralph Webb was held to 34 rushing yards and a touchdown on 11 carries.
13. Missouri (14t)
The Tigers came away with the victory over Vanderbilt thanks to 294 passing yards and two touchdowns on 22-of-37 passing from Drew Lock. Damarea Crockett added 154 rushing yards and a touchdown on 20 carries.
12. Mississippi State (14t)
There was very little hope for the Bulldogs when they took on Alabama. A loss was totally expected, but now Dan Mullen will prepare his team for a home game against Arkansas next weekend.
11. South Carolina (11)
Jake Bentley has shown a lot of promise for the Gamecocks, but South Carolina couldn’t muster up the offense it needed to win in Gainesville. Will Muschamp is now 0-1 in The Swamp as a visiting head coach.
10. Kentucky (9)
The Wildcats put up a lot of points against Butch Jones’ Vols, but the Kentucky defense was absolutely torched by Joshua Dobbs.
9. Ole Miss (8)
Rebels fans saw the future in Shea Patterson Saturday night. The true freshman quarterback connected on 25-of-42 passes for 338 yards, two touchdowns and a pick. Ole Miss scored 10 unanswered points late in the fourth quarter to beat Texas A&M, 29-28.
8. Georgia (10)
How about those Georgia Bulldogs? Jacob Eason stepped up with 208 passing yards. And Kirby Smart’s team topped Auburn, 13-7.
7. Tennessee (7)
The Vols allowed 36 points to Kentucky, and had it not been for Joshua Dobbs’ 147 rushing yards, Tennessee might have found itself eliminated from the race for the East crown.
6. Florida (5)
The Gators took care of business with Austin Appleby at quarterback. But Florida lost another defensive starter with Marcus Maye’s broken arm, so things aren’t so great in Gainesville right now despite the win.
5. Arkansas (6)
A week after the Razorbacks upset Florida, Bret Bielema’s team fell to LSU, 38-10. Austin Allen completed 15-of-31 passes for 210 yards and a touchdown, but he was also picked off twice.
4. Texas A&M (2)
Without Trevor Knight, the Aggies had to rely on Jake Hubenak to lead the offense. He completed 16-of-27 passes for 213 yards, two touchdowns and an interception. But Texas A&M still fell to Ole Miss thanks to a late field goal.
3. Auburn (3)
Gus Malzahn’s Tigers could not get anything going offensively. Auburn could barely move the ball and ended up losing to Georgia, 13-7.
2. LSU (4)
Leonard Fournette was a beast in the win over Arkansas like he normally is. He rushed for 98 yards and three touchdowns on 17 carries, but he wasn’t alone. Derrius Guice ran for 252 yards and two touchdowns on 21 carries, but he also broke a school record for the longest touchdown run in LSU history with 96-yard burst toward the end zone.
1. Alabama (1)
Jalen Hurts went off for the Crimson Tide with 347 passing yards and 100 rushing yards. The true freshman quarterback led Alabama in both categories — go figure.
