Take a look at what we’re vibing on in SEC football, as we celebrate the news of a Garth Brooks/SEC pairing by matching each conference team with a hit song from Garth himself.

The only thing that even comes close to the atmosphere of a SEC football game is a Garth Brooks concert. Trust me on this. If you haven’t been to either, you really haven’t lived. The lights go off, the crowd starts to roar, and then your hero appears. I’m getting chills just thinking about it.

Lately I’ve been vibing on news that Mr. Brooks himself has penned a song for the opening of SEC football on CBS this season, going to my local karaoke joint to wow everyone with my version of “Calling Baton Rouge,” and drinking some long-necked bottles of beer.

Oh yes, it is that time again. So grab your missus, get down and groovy to some honky tonk, and prepare for the rodeo as we take a look at which Garth Brooks songs best describe each SEC football team in the latest edition of our SEC Football Vibes.

    Alabama – “Ain’t Going Down”

The Crimson Tide have had an amazing run since Nick Saban arrived, and they don’t look like they have plans to let up anytime soon.

    Pertinent Lyric

Two is coming, still no stopping
Break to check the clock at three
They’re right on where they want to be
Four o’clock get up and going
    Five o’clock that rooster’s crowing

That pretty much sums up Saban’s work schedule, right?

    Arkansas – “Beer Run”

Does Bret Bielema enjoy anything more than beer and running the football?

    Pertinent Lyric

Laughing and a bragging and a carrying on
We loaded up the wagons and we headed home
I guess a half a dozen cases doesn’t last that long
Come tomorrow morning it’ll be all gone
Then, it’s turn around, leave town, sounds again
    Like a B double – E double – R U N

Okay, Bielema might like laughing and bragging as much as the previous two. When are we having that beer, Bret?

    Auburn – “The Thunder Rolls”

The thunder will definitely be rolling on The Plains if Gus Malzahn’s offense doesn’t become lightning and start putting up victories.

    Pertinent Lyric

    The thunder rolls
    And the lightnin’ strikes

    Another love grows cold
    On a sleepless night

Pretty much sums up the feelings of the Auburn fan base toward Malzahn right now.

    Florida – “This Ain’t Tennessee”

An 11-game winning streak against the Volunteers has the Gators riding high and feeling good.

    Pertinent Lyric

    It’s a big estate
    With wrought iron gates
    And palm trees standin’ tall
    Fancy mirrors and chandeliers
    Comfort wall to wall
And the ocean air is so crisp and clear
And they rave about our view

Quit bragging, Gators. Gainesville is at least a hour from the closest beach.

    Georgia – “That Summer”

No SEC fan base lives in the past more than Georgia, who’re still waiting for the first championship since 1980.

    Pertinent Lyric

And every time I pass a wheat field
And watch it dancing with the wind
Although I know it isn’t real
I just can’t help but feel
    Her hungry arms again

Replace wheat field with hedges and her hungry arms with a national title trophy and you have a Bulldog anthem.

    Kentucky – “Mr. Blue”

That Wildcat football can leave you feeling blue, especially during the latter part of the last two seasons.

    Pertinent Lyric

    I won’t tell you
    When you paint the town
A bright red to turn it upside down
    I’m painting it too
    But I’m painting it blue

Blowing a 24-7 halftime lead to in-state rival Louisville last year has to hurt, especially since it cost the Wildcats a spot in a bowl game.

LSU – Any Chris Gaines song

What was Garth thinking with this experiment? It’s as strange as Les Miles and the entire state of Louisiana. Oh, and you thought I was going to go with the obvious?

    Pertinent Lyric

Some of our stories fade as we grow older
Some get sweeter every time they’re told
That’s the way, I’ll remember you that way

How will Miles be remembered when his days in Baton Rouge are done?

    Mississippi State – “Shameless”

Let’s just leave it with the lyrics.

    Pertinent Lyric

Well I’m shameless when it comes to loving you
I’ll do anything you want me to
    I’ll do anything at all

Nothing can better describe the actions and decisions of Dan Mullen this offseason.

Missouri – “To Make You Feel My Love”

The Tigers are still trying to feel as loved as the other 13 SEC schools.

    Pertinent Lyric

I’d go hungry, I’d go black and blue
I’d go crawling down the avenue
    There ain’t nothing that I wouldn’t do
To make you feel my love

Mizzou will do anything to make the SEC happy.

    Ole Miss – “Unanswered Prayers”

The Rebels are still looking for that first trip to the SEC Championship game in Atlanta. You know uber-religious Hugh Freeze gets down on his knees each night wishing for it.

    Pertinent Lyric

She was the one that I’d wanted for all times
And each night I’d spend prayin’ that God would make her mine
And if he’d only grant me this wish I wished back then
I’d never ask for anything again

“JUST ONCE, MY LORD AND SAVIOR!!! WE JUST WANT TO MAKE IT TO ATLANTA ONCE!!!” – Hugh Freeze (probably)

South Carolina – “Much Too Young (To Feel This Damn Old)”

It is hard to believe that Will Muschamp is only 45 years old. It seems like he’s been coaching in college for that long.

    Pertinent Lyric

And the white line’s getting longer and the saddle’s getting cold
I’m much too young to feel this damn old
All my cards are on the table with no ace left in the hole
I’m much too young to feel this damn old

The Gamecocks are lacking on talent right now.

Tennessee – “If Tomorrow Never Comes”

You know how next year is always the year? Well, next year is here for the Volunteers, right?

    Pertinent Lyric

Now I live with the regret
That my true feelings for them never were revealed
So I made a promise to myself
To say each day how much she means to me
    And avoid that circumstance
Where there’s no second chance to tell her how I feel

Volunteer fans are probably wishing they had been better to Phillip Fulmer during his last days as head coach.

    Texas A&M – “Midnight Sun”

The Aggies enjoy gathering at midnight for their weekly Yell Practice.

    Pertinent Lyric

Getting loud with all my cowboy friends
    The party never ends

    A-G-G-I-E-S!!! A-G-G-I-E-S! AAAAAAAA…Fight Em, Aggies! WHOOOOOP!

    Vanderbilt – “The Dance”

The Commodores were rolling right along, putting up winning seasons and making bowl games until…

    Pertinent Lyric

For a moment all the world was right
How could I have known that you’d ever say goodbye

Yep. James Franklin left for Penn State.
