Former Cal head coach Sonny Dykes will reportedly accept a position on TCU’s coaching staff but in an undetermined role for the Horned Frogs.

There have been pieces of gum that kept their flavor longer than Sonny Dykes was on the unemployment line.

A week after Dykes was fired as the Cal Golden Bears’ head coach, he’s reportedly making a move to the Big 12. Dykes will be joining TCU’s coaching staff in an undetermined role, as reported by 247Sports.

He spent four seasons in Berkley after replacing current Fresno State head coach Jeff Tedford as the head coach at Cal, and Dykes led the Golden Bears to a 19-30 record during that time.

A position on Gary Patterson’s staff became available following the departure of former co-offensive coordinator and wide receivers coach Doug Meacham, who accepted Kansas’ offensive coordinator job last week.

Dykes is a native son of the Lone Star State. He’s originally from Big Spring, Texas, and he attended Texas Tech. Coincidentally, his only Big 12 coaching experience came with the Red Raiders. Dykes served as their wide receivers coach from 2000 to 2004 and as their co-offensive coordinator from 2005 to 2006.

However, he isn’t the only Pac-12 coach joining the Horned Frogs for the 2017 season. TCU will also hire Arizona State offensive line coach Chris Thomsen.

Thomsen is a graduate of TCU, but his role on Patterson’s staff is also unknown, according to AZCentral.

Last season, the Horned Frogs ranked No. 29 in total offense (463.2 ypg) and No. 52 in scoring offense (31 ppg).
