South Carolina vs. Western Carolina Game Preview

    When: Saturday, November 19 – 4:00 p.m. ET
    Where: Williams-Brice Stadium, Columbia, SC
    TV Broadcast: SEC Network

South Carolina went into Gainesville and played a tough game against Florida, but the offense could not do enough, and the Gamecock were defeated 20-7. The running game gave no help to quarterback Jake Bentley, as 43 yards were all the Gamecocks could muster on the ground.

A 49-21 loss to Furman put the Catamounts at 2-8 on the season. Quarterback Tyrie Adams threw for 295 yards and a touchdown while running back Detrez Newsom found the end zone twice on the ground.

What To Know About South Carolina

Since taking over the starting job, Bentley has been what the Gamecocks needed under center and has shown that he could be a star in the SEC soon. Look for him to air it out more and get some reps against the mediocre Catamounts passing defense.

Defensively, South Carolina is allowing just 21.1 points per game, and will be able to keep Western Carolina from doing too much offensively.

What to Know About Western Carolina

Newsome leads the Catamounts with 916 rushing yards, but the Gamecocks will have to look out for quarterback Tyrie Adams, who averages 243.7 yards through the air. All of that leads to an offense that struggle at scoring, averaging just 23.4 points per game. That is a problem when the defense gives up 35.2 a game.

Did you know that the actor Terrence Mann teaches musical theater at Western Carolina. The only reason I mention this is because Mann, like myself, was born in Ashland, Kentucky. It is a town of about 21,000 in the northeastern part of Kentucky, and part of the tri-state area where Kentucky, West Virginia and Ohio all meet. Other famous people (other than myself, of course) include: Billy Ray Cyrus, The Judds, and Chuck Woolery. You are welcome for this information.

    Advantages

Offense: South Carolina. Bentley is getting better each week.

Defense: South Carolina. A staple of Will Muschamp is a tough defense

Special Teams: South Carolina. Gamecocks average 42.22 yards per punt.

Coaching: South Carolina. Muschamp seems more at ease in his second head coaching stint.

Intangibles: South Carolina. Win and a bowl game awaits.

South Carolina vs. Western Carolina Prediction

This is a game where the Gamecocks will be able learn what some younger players are able to do, or so you would think considering the talent difference. Bentley will be able to put some yards and points up, and South Carolina can start looking at possibly pulling the upset against Clemson next week.

South Carolina vs. Western Carolina Score Prediction: South Carolina 41, Western Carolina 10
